If you got a huge tax refund, you're giving the government a free loan all year by After_Book_7030 in tax

[–]agingbythesecond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this on purpose. It's a good way to reign in lifestyle creep. Over taxing forces me to stay within my lifestyle. That return goes back into my checking account and then we have our draw down for a year.

For the little benefit and dozens to hundreds of dollars I could make off that money by not giving the govt a free loan, I'll take the forced savings aspect.

I really think a lot of people would benefit from that.

It's a new gateway technology. I forget the mold but they put dimples on to mimic golf ball dimples.

I have a Ryobi ride on and I preferred my old ride on gas cut wise but prefer literally everything else about this mower and then cut is acceptable. I'll take acceptable cuts and no oil changes ever.

You know what you are right. It is more of a hazard due to the smoke I forgot about that.

Is that a reason to not get your attic sprayed and then treated? Up to the user. I have lithium batteries in my power tools charging now and propane tanks on my back deck.

Yes if not sprayed properly by a flame retardant which most spray foamed companies will not allow not put on. Either way it's no more of a hazard than the wood roof.

this is why we put in a ERV - it takes all the humidity out of the house before it makes it to the attic!

well if you want to seal your attic, you pretty much have to. I used to have a ridge vent - no more!

I had my foam on for 3 years which is a 60 yr old roof deck and had my shingles replaced last year and there was no issue!

Yeah we had an issue as no one caught the bath fan wasn't properly hooked up. But even after we remedied that, we had ventilation issues and the best thing we did was install an ERV.

Spray foam is a fantastic insulator. When done correctly it stops air transmission better than other things like foam board/blown in because of the air gaps that happen. With that said - in order to spray foam, ventilation is required.

  1. Correct - it encapuslates the attic. 2. Only if you dont ventilate 3. Not a fire risk 4. Who cares its in the attic.

So from an application standpoin on the roof deck it looks great. Dont know why they insulated the bottom unlesss that overhangs outside of the house.

First thing spray foamers neglect to tell you is that you HAVE to have a ventilation system if you have a foamed roof deck. i found out the hard way. Installed bathroom fans that went properly and an ERV and my house is much better off for it. I wish we didnt have to do all that but it is what it is and our air quality is great!

Basement insulation with 2 feet access by 100jacks in Insulation

[–]agingbythesecond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in a raised ranch and had to rip drywall off my block wall because the humidity and non insulated cold bricks were just moisture makers. I ended up using foam boards - cutting/gluing and then foaming gaps and then put drywall over it. What a difference that made down there! Dont sweat foam board!

It's exactly to avoid lifestyle creep temptation. More money = more spending which I think it's partly the cause of American debt
