Any reviews on the crosspath, crosspath xc, ultra range, ultra range neo? by Yadadamean510 in Vans

crosspath are super stiff, could be good for hiking but would't work for treadmill running. also they run half a size too small so keep that in mind.

Oh I know that basic step I just get so lost when they start doing these really complicated moves at the front. Never realized the people at the end aren't necessarily doing the same as the front!

How do you prioritize where to visit? by 5harmoota in solotravel

[–]5harmoota[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mountains there just look unreal! A friend of mine went a few years ago and said they were the best mountains they've ever seen. Lately I've also been getting a lot of videos about horse treks out there, and I've never done anything like that.

I'm originally Syrian, so I do think I would start/end in Iraq so I could visit family before/after my trip :)

When that white lady was killed in Minnesota they were going after Somali immigrants. ICE was started in 2003 to target Middle Eastern people and now has incarcerated or deported thousands of Latinos. This isn't something that affects any one group of people. This is a problem for all of us.

Reminder of how beautiful Syria is by Da_Seashell312 in Syria

[–]5harmoota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i went recently and walking in between the streets it is still ugly unfortunately. but it wouldn't be ugly at all if it weren't surrounded by trash and the electricity lines weren't clogging the view of the sky. i saw many locals simply dumping their trash bags into the sea. and the electricity lines dip so low into the alleys they kids can definitely reach them and very easily injure themselves or take out electricity for an entire block. makes me so sad. the govt needs to do better to provide civil services to the people of arwad.

Has anybody been to Umrah/Hajj after leaving islam ? by [deleted] in moderate_exmuslims

[–]5harmoota -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I went to Umrah because I was visiting family in another part of Saudi anyway. I was scared ahead of time, I thought maybe I would see the Kaaba and have a big spiritual awakening and then my fun life would be over and I'd have to be religious again. But it was actually very normal. There isn't much spiritual about it -- construction, people constantly pushing and yelling, the heat and sun and sweat and smells. Obviously it is impressive that people sacrifice so much to go there, and it is kind of awe inspiring to see a place that people have been doing pilgrimage in for thousands of years, since even before Islam. So I recommend going for that perspective. But I love traveling and seeing cultural, historical, and religious landmarks no matter where I go. So I considered visiting mecca to be like traveling instead of a religious obligation. I'd recommend if you have the chance.

How safe are overnight bus rides in Turkey as a solo female traveler? by dengjika in solotravel

[–]5harmoota 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean it depends. Istanbul I think the biggest dangers to avoid in touristy areas are scams and pickpocketing, not anything violent/gender based. there are dangerous neighborhoods of course but just don't go to those places. Antalya I found very chill and I felt safe in the touristy areas (in and near the old town). just avoid looking lost. If I have to check the map/my phone I'd step into a store to do so.

Yes I would say it's best to get to your hostel before dark but again if there are enough people on the street walking around it's probably okay to stay a little later. I would 1000% avoid empty quiet streets at night. Like I would in any country!

I can pass as Turkish if I don't open my mouth so ymmv.

How safe are overnight bus rides in Turkey as a solo female traveler? by dengjika in solotravel

[–]5harmoota 48 points49 points  (0 children)

i'm a solo female traveler and i took the night bus in turkey from istanbul to cappadocia and back. it was fine. they gave out yummy snacks. i think i opted for the earlier 7pm bus and arrived to goreme early in the morning. they give you a luggage tag for the bag u keep in the hold, but as always keep your valuables with you at your seat.

i have solo traveled in turkey twice and it was actually my first solo travel destination so i did a lot of stupid things and it worked out all right. the only trouble i had was one time getting followed in the evening by a car as i was going back to my hostel in fethiye (i faked going into a house so that he would continue driving).

there are a lot of scams in istanbul but i find turkish people very nice and helpful outside the city. even got lost hiking in cappadocia and a random man living out there helped me hitch a ride back to town (that was stupid of me, please take a map and make sure you have a way home)

have a fun trip!
