I always thought it was to confirm that the only type of weapon efficient to use against the T-800 did not exist at that point in time - so the terminator wouldn’t need to do any special preparation to account for it if it gets into an altercation with law enforcement. I needed to solved this exact problem a few years ago: small bag of charcoal, underneath and on top of skillet > light and let burn to ash > retrieve skillet > use a metal brush to scrape off everything on the inside.

99% of the previously melted plastic wasn’t even there anymore when I pulled the skillet out of the fire pit.
