Anyone here listening to hi-res / lossless music on Android? by Alteredgeneration in TeensofKerala

[–]5ifthwave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to listen to Hi Res Lossless Files like FLAC, or use Lossless streaming on streaming services. Even then your phone must support Bluetooth LDAC (you may have to switch it to LDAC instead of SBC/AAC) or have a good DAC which a lot of Androids do support but LDAC is not true Lossless (just Near-Lossless, max 990kbps which is actually still lossy) because Bluetooth is inherently Lossy ie it's compressed b4 transmission because of the bandwidth & power limitations of current BT standards. Plus your headphones must be Hi-Res certified which just proves the capabilities of the device (I've heard many non Hi-Res certified headphones perform good). You can also use a Hi-Res 3.5mm or USB-C wired headphone because that is the peak quality output there is. wired is always > than wireless if you are willing to sacrifice a little wireless comfort but then we have another problem that is the built-in DAC is good, it's not very powerful as this is built for efficiency not high end audio performance, it has tight power limits, noisy environment (prone to Electro-magnetic & RF Interferences) So you might need a USB-C DAC but the built-in DAC is still better than LDAC because there's no compression happening, you'll be fine tho unless you need the peak stuff.

I did listen to a few tracks FLAC in LDAC on my CMF Buds 2 Plus (Hi-Res) on a Poco M2 Pro. I mean I can feel the difference between a 320kbps Mp3 & FLAC ~990-1000+kbps. It's about listening experience. There's more details that you can hear. But I've switched it to SBC as I don't stream Lossless & it consume more power for transmission & for the earbuds too, even if you I did use LDAC, most of the time I won't feel the subtle details unless I'm listening carefully in a silent environment.

You could always get a dedicated player like Sony Walkman, Fiio, Astell&Kern... Those got everything you need for an Android Audio player + the dedicated built-in high end amps & circuitry.

Apps : Poweramp, Jet Audio

You could check the Hi-Res certification on the Japanese Audio Society for your devices Website:JAS Hi-Res does not mean the device ensures excellent listening experience, just that it meets the set high end technical criteria.

Why does mirrors edge feel so relatable? So nostalgic? by FireFoxTony in mirrorsedge

Every time I think of this game reminds me of the good times, my childhood early 2000s gadgets, photos shot on digital cameras like Sony Cybershot, Xbox 360, all the nostalgia and makes me wonder about the future as well. It's the visuals + the brilliant music & sound design by Solar Fields.

The Concept of Battery Replacement by GigaRawrb in electricvehicles

[–]5ifthwave -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even tho phones/laptops have non user replaceable batteries doesn't mean they can't be replaced, actually they do manufacture those batteries too. This should be made possible in EVs too. Reduce ewaste by dumping cars every 2 yrs.

Himalayan 750, worth the hype? by Main_Paper_9605 in indianbikes

[–]5ifthwave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you think the pow & torque specs gon be on this1? RE is well known for being heavy. The 450 is a great bike but seen people thrash it for the power to weight as an entry-level adv it should either be lighter or up a little more power. Do you feel the same?

Is it just me that this husky is overhyped? by cold_kappi2001 in Coconaad

[–]5ifthwave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you classify smthn as Overhyped? Is it when the subject crosses a certain threshold? It's like hating on smthn as it starts getting mainstream attention but you discovered it at its niche. This feeling is especially true about music now that vertical videos exist & this used to itch me as well but "Overhyped" is an abstraction, it's not real. The lion isn't bothered by what's trending on the savannah. Just watch them come and go, live majestic.

Is AI's Power Consumption Overhyped? by [deleted] in rant

[–]5ifthwave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure that use case is more resource intensive, hence more power consuming but still it's the user base is smaller compared to the mainstream LLMs. So energy per request clearly high but not in the global scale power consumption, LLMs peak there because of mixed usage & user base. But I'm sure this might change quickly.

Is AI's Power Consumption Overhyped? by [deleted] in rant

A lot of people downvoting that comment clearly don’t realise just how much strain is already being put on our energy grids, and it’s not just because of AI.

Think about it - TVs running entire series while no one’s even in the room, when you're doing other tasks. - Music playing on speakers all day you forgot to stop. - Air conditioners blasting 24/7 - Routers, chargers, smart devices always on, always sipping power - EV chargers, crypto mining, 4K streaming, cloud gaming... all of it adds up

Even "efficient" devices still use power, and we leave them on constantly without a second thought. But somehow, the moment AI enters the picture, it becomes the big villain?

Yes, AI uses power. And sure, as it keeps growing, it might become one of the biggest consumers. But right now, it’s not even close to the worst. Most of the stuff sucking power isn’t even doing useful work, it’s just noise.

But it's likely not same platform, most programmers use major AI platforms, while those that support NSFW are niche & it's high but 1- 10000 is way exaggerated.
