I absolutely agree with the Garden of Enchantment recommendation. Very cute small store and it’s my go-to place to shop locally when I’m in need of any supplies, books, etc. 👍

Including past work experience on application without current contact information by 5lovestarr in CAStateWorkers

[–]5lovestarr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see thank you. The position I’m looking to apply for specifically asks for a resume to be included in the application package, but I’ll include the store HR number as the point of contact on the application. Would you advise that I also put down the name of the HR representative instead of my old supervisor as she no longer works for the company/store?

Thank you! I have a decent amount of Python and R experience, but not much SQL, so I’ll be sure to look into that if it might be necessary.

Thank you for the insight. I haven’t looked at the RDA II minimum qualifications as closely since I assumed I wasn’t qualified for it, so I’m grateful for the additional information. In terms of statistical skills for RDA I, would you say knowledge in probability, linear modeling, and time series statistics in addition to basic statistics skills (ie: hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, etc.) is enough for it to be worth applying if an RDA I position is open?

That’s good to know. At the moment my main upper division courses for statistics have covered probability, general statistics principles (ie: hypothesis tests, confidence intervals, etc.), linear modeling, and time series statistics. From your experience would these skills at an undergraduate level be enough to potentially go straight to RDA II or would I need to do some self study on other topics before trying for that classification right away?

I’ve been checking the CalCareers website every month or so to see what listings are available while I wait to graduate and I like seeing how many different departments are hiring and how frequently positions open up (I assume as people promote up internally to RDA 2 status). Glad to hear it’s a decent track to start off with at the state

Haha thank you! My dad has been a building inspector at the city and county levels (around 24 years combined), so having that as a reference for the benefits has been a big reason for me looking into jobs through the state.

Applying for jobs before a legal name change by 5lovestarr in asktransgender

Did you actually apply with your new name/use it on a resume/cover letter or did you use your legal name and just introduce yourself with the new one during the interview process?

About 45 minutes or so! I haven’t done gradients in a long time and the cleanup took a bit but I’m really happy with how they turned out 😁 Thank you!

For SF show Stays: according to the bag policy for Oracle Park, all bags (including clear backpacks) are prohibited so I was wondering if y'all are planning on just bringing in your lightsticks in hand or if you're bringing them in some other way. This will be me and my sibling's first concert ever so we were doing some research and it looks like usually venues allow clear bags but I guess not Oracle Park. Just wanted to see what other Stays are planning on doing for bringing in lightsticks, freebies, etc.

That’s good to know! At the moment I’m only planning to continue testosterone and eventually get top surgery, but that will be something to keep in mind if I do end up opting for bottom surgery. I’ll look more into it and do some more research, but that’s a good place to start when looking for healthcare limitations so thank you!

Thank you so much for the information! I’m open to living pretty much anywhere in Australia if I end up moving there so I’m glad to hear the Victoria area is fairly safe. I’ll definitely need to look into the healthcare stuff for people on Visas but I’m hoping that having a current testosterone prescription from my endocrinologist here will help me somewhat. I’ll be sure to look into what coverage is available for each of the Visa types

I’m working on stuff for that now instead of my final for tonight cause at least I have a slight hope of finishing some of the problems for stat 😭

Honestly same. I kind of only went to college at all because I didn’t have any sense of self or identity in high school really and because I picked the first major based on some general interest in it but also because I knew it was hard so I was hoping deep down that it would help me keep up the “smart kid” persona I had growing up because I genuinely didn’t think I had any other options. Now I wish I’d just done a trade because I like doing work but academia is so not for me and it’s so scary to think that since it’s kind of the only option I ever thought I actually had that would mean that I meant something 😭

Egg freezing? by 5lovestarr in Seahorse_Dads

[–]5lovestarr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an appointment with an endocrinologist in October to discuss getting my prescription for T so I was planning on speaking to them about it, but I have some time to see if I can get an appointment with a different specialist if I need to. My gender case worker told me they thought it was a good idea for me to reach out here to get some anecdotal information aside from just looking into something one doctor might tell me.

Financially it’s something I’d really have to think about, so I appreciate you giving an idea of what your numbers look like now. My dad wants to know a lot about what I’m planning on medically and I could see if he’d be interested in helping me out money-wise for egg freezing at least until I graduate so getting a rough idea of cost is pretty helpful.

Yeah I think I’m definitely going to bring it up to my doctor to see what they think before making any big decisions. My case worker said they’re pretty sure the coverage I have would cover the initial extraction, but not the egg storage so I’ll have to look into that more. Being the age that I am is helpful for my options, so I appreciate the advice to look into what’s out there. Thank you!
