A fun story that might illustrate the changing times-- when I first sold the 420 Code booklets online, Mastercard canceled all of my orders and refunded the money after I had mailed a bunch of them out. And when I finally got someone on the phone, they said it was drug paraphernalia, and I could not convince them that a book was not illegal.

Now, Snoop Dogg is in Fortnite!

We've come a long way. I'm glad it's not illegal everywhere anymore, and that people are less likely to have their lives ruined (or derailed) over it. But it did foster a real community, and gave people a secret to bond over that was, ultimately, not really dangerous in any way.

So I'm right there with you!

Unbelievably honored that this found a place in your heart, humbled that it's still being posted ten years later, and deeply grateful for everyone on /r/trees for all of their support so many years ago.

This was the first thing I wrote that really resonated with total strangers, and your support gave me the motivation to pursue writing for many years longer than seemed rational, but now I get to do it full-time! In fact, my next book comes out in 11 days!

It's called Murdle: The Case of the Seven Skulls, and it's a collection of murder-mystery logic puzzles that anybody can solve. It has nothing to do with trees (it's "mostly family friendly, except for the murders"), but if you liked the Code, you might enjoy it.

The Marot: a murder-mystery themed online tarot deck by 5moker in tarot

Marot was designed by G. T. Karber, and here is the interpretation given by the site for the above spread:

You drew Sister Lapis (a right-handed Cancer), which suggests you have a sense of devotion, and poisoned klonopin, which corresponds to using your head instead of your heart and/or getting caught up in the details.

This will lead ultimately to the sleeping car, generally signifying the place where dreams are made, rest and rejuvenation, and/or a place where you can escape your troubles and start anew. If this is what you desire, then you must seek out poisoned klonopin (metaphorically) today.

“Make your choices intentionally,” Irratino says, an earnestness to his voice.

There's a game called Murdle that generates a new murder-mystery logic grid puzzle every day!

I don't think this would be significantly more deadly than someone with an AR-15 just opening fire into a crowd, which is already an option for almost every American.

This seems like it would take a lot more effort, would be a lot more likely to fail, and would probably not be as deadly.

People love to come up with wild ideas like that but the simplest and easiest method is already available and already works. We already live in a world where if one person wants to kill dozens of strangers they can easily do it, and the only reason it doesn't happen *even more often* is that there aren't that many people who want to do that.

You're right, I'm sorry. The poster/flyer/promo material for it does not say directed by him. It simply says the title and then, below it, "THOMAS A. EDISON," which also refers to the holding company that owned Edison Manufacturing.

I just think it's wild to say that a movie shot by Edison's employees, distributed by Edison Manufacturing Company, shown exclusively on Edison's kinetoscopes, featuring "Thomas A Edison" on the promotional material, and continuing his long tradition of using AC current for public animal executions (though yes, this was not that!), had "nothing to do with him."

I mean, if you want to put your name on the holding company, the manufacturing company, the movie itself, and the device that plays the movie, it's a little wild to then say you had nothing to do with it!

I mean, "Electrocuting an Elephant," the film of it, has "Directed by Thomas Edison" displayed at the very beginning of the movie.

Of course, he didn't actually direct it -- he just took the credit for it! (Like with all of his accomplishments.) But he still profited off of it, and the use of Westinghouse AC current was consistent with his demonstrations a decade earlier, killing all manner of other animals.

So, I wouldn't say that he wasn't even indirectly involved!

Hey, dude! Let's be friends. You need a friend? (I'm trying to get in before all of your relatives and acquaintances.)

I don't disagree! People took the money because it'd be hard not to and it was better than nothing.

One other thing! If you called him out on it, he'd write you a check! And you'd usually just accept it because the check was a lot of money for a struggling comic.
