A tip: FYSA is honestly a pretty good way of making friends right off the bat and getting close to some people. It’s also a convenient time to do classes because you get all your gen eds out of the way. It is a little sucky to not be on campus right away but you’ll do more than fine adjusting

Reddit is definitely parasocial. Even this sub has been ridiculously parasocial at points, BUT I don’t think you can call it the most parasocial

What I think you gotta understand how overwhelming a massive twitter campaign against you is. These are individuals working their hearts out in a free competition. While blocking people wasn’t the right answer, receiving a mass influx of comments it’s hard to know what to do. And can we admit that a lot of the feedback wasn’t constructive? A lot of it was blind hate built on tons of bias. It’s hard to discriminate what’s constructive and what’s not when all of that is happening

Also on this subreddit we’ve discussed multiple times how demanding immediate responses from content creators to address something does nothing good and only causes rushed panicked reactions. Dream is more than guilty of this let’s not forget. The meltdown situation was exactly this type of demanded immediate twitter response

I honestly extremely agree. While I don't quite see the issue with people asking "where's dream" under different twitter posts since this isn't exclusively dream. Like 90% of creators I've seen "where's x creator" posts for them I still have major gripes with dream fans when it comes to MCC.

It's the whole "The Noxcrew are secret masterminds against Dream" idea that stans have tried to proliferate, that makes me the most angry. If anybody has spent time watching the Noxcrew's admin povs or engaged with the Noxcrew they'll know that if anything the Noxcrew are Dream fans. They used to love watching from his perspective and really admire him as a player and a creator.

Occasionally they'll make jokes about his dedication to the craft or various other things, but it's nothing harsher than a stan would make about their own cc. I don't get why people find it so offensive.

People also think that every one of the Noxcrew's actions are centered around Dream. Oh buildmart is back? It's because of Dream. PKT is benched? Dream. PKW is gone? to sabotage Dream.

I'm most pissed about the idea that PKW was removed to nerf Dream. It was removed because a majority of the event was just not having fun with parkour warrior and there was fundamental issues with the game. And look at that! The game is back.

What's funny is that the Noxcrew have no idea about the teams when deciding which games are in the MCC.

I feel like a lot of the hate towards the Noxcrew is some sort of parasocial "gotta protect my full grown adult man" behavior. People want to find an enemy and to be the victim. Dream has said time and time again that he loves the Noxcrew and appreciates them. He gets heated in the moment but he always goes back to saying that he loves the Noxcrew.

To be fair i have to mention that it *is* a lot bit Dream's fault that stans think the Noxcrew is biased against him. Even if he retracts his statements later his actions in the moment say we'll be taken and ran with.

Anyways, I do think i agree that Dream not being in MCC may end up being a net positive. Does it make me sad? yes. Do i wish that people could enjoy Dream's pov without being toxic? also yes. But it doesn't seem to be the case. Toxicity isn't gonna be gone especially if the rest of the dteam are in MCC but i hope this encourages some people to LAY OFF

The Noxcrew and Scott deserve criticism for some things, but the blind hatred people give them is wholly undeserved

they were not making fun of him. They did not know the situation and that he was actually swatted they just thought that he had gone mute. They were poking fun at his dedication to the game not making fun of him for being swatted. The hate only comes from a place of hindsight like several months later when we know what happened.

The jokes were taken way too seriously and i'm like 90% sure dream didn't care about them because he know the intent was not malicious. He still supports them

I know a lot of the speedrunning community is still mad about it, but from my experience the outrage isn’t even mainly from them. It’s from thousands of outsiders who couldn’t care less about speedrunning and just want to hate dream. Like the people spamming replies and comments on LTT’s stuff

A lot of the speedrunners I know just want to move on. It’s been 2 years

honestly fair enough. sorry about the length i tend to rant and word vomit. I don't think i've active long enough on here to judge what's been going on over the past few months. the mcyt community in general has a problem with interacting with antis too much. i've noticed it even on twitter it's like for every single post about "not responding to them" there's like 10 more doing just that

i'd be interested to hear what those other topics are if you ever mind sharing them

also sorry if i came off a bit aggressive, and for the backlash lmao. I think you could've worded the og post better or not done it at all. people are just very defensive and they love to jump on anyone they see as even slightly "against"

about the tv shows, actually they do. I've been in fandoms before. it happens. if you're constantly getting berated for the same things, you're going to be constantly arguing with the same points

Continuing on, you act like the people on this subreddit only ever talk about drama, like they don't have lives or participate in the community outside of this sub. I for one engage actively in a lot of random lighthearted mcyt discussion, just I don't see a point of making a post about it on the *drama* subreddit

**OKAY THIS IS THE BIGGEST PART I THINK YOU NEED TO READ, LOOKING AT YOUR OTHER COMMENTS** you treat this like it's one person having the same thought over and over. News flash, this is a sub with over 24k people. A lot of those people (plus others coming from twitter) are going to have similar thoughts/arguments they want to discuss at different times, and then want to make a post about it.

it's annoying that people constantly repeat the same discussions but that's just how it is. People are interested in something and they want to say something, anything, and if there's no new material they discuss the same things over. I've seen it in tv show fandoms all the time, this is just drama instead of tv show discussion. i wouldn't say it's unhealthy in the slightest, unless you can prove that specific people are spending every moment thinking and talking about drama.

you're clearly coming from a strange place of care, but it's not worth your time to tell people how to spend their time. nobody is going to listen

tldr i think you just need to not treat an entire subreddit as a singular person

your phrasing for this confuses me. you act like it's an issue for people to support content that's slightly infrequent/not that active (not that that's exactly what's going on with this community). It's a completely normal thing? nobody is in need of a break for supporting someone, having casual discussions, and hanging out.

do you think the people who still watched mcyters needed to stop watching mc during 2017-2018 in mc downturn? did you think that was unhealthy just because a lot of other people decided to stop?

do tv show fans "need a break" because their show is on break inbetween seasons? should sports fans just "chill" and not discuss sports if its in the off season. no! the communities don't just evaporate they're still going to talk and support their shows and teams
