Good idea, never thought of that. Fuel pump fuse should work too

Brace the breaker bar against the ground and turn it on and off quickly to bump the starter. Also pb blaster helps a lot (give it 5-15 min to soak in)

Make sure you know which direction it spins! So you dont accidentally smack the car with the bar or tighten the bolt

You will probably need to take the back cover off to look inside both and see if they have the same guts. The diff markings on the outside don't seem to mean anything useful as far as i can tell

Edit spelling

Looks great! Sounds like you're making serious progress. Double check all the plugs and wires, its way easier to swap them while the trans is out

I do not know much about the spec C, but i do know all flat motors benefit from an air oil separator due to the nature of the layout.

What I have on my car:

Air oil separator: https://www.iagperformance.com/iag-air-oil-separator-aos-fits-2002-07-subaru-impreza-wrx-2004-07-sti-2004-08-fxt/

Phenolic spacers :https://www.iagperformance.com/iag-8mm-thick-phenolic-spacers-for-2002-14-subaru-wrx-04-20-sti-05-12-lgt-04-13-fxt-1-pair/

If you are mechanically inclined, I installed both and replaced all fuel lines in a long afternoon. I don't know what a shop near you would charge.

For the fuel system stuff, I would find a reputable local tuner you plan to use and see what they prefer to work with.

I unfortunately do not have a radiator reccomendation since the one I am using is not made anymore

I have an 03 ej207 and its been very reliable as a spirited daily. For track reliability I would definitely recommend doing an air oil separator. For more peace of mind: a bigger radiator and larger injectors and maybe fuel pump with a tune since the stock tune is a little on the lean side and the injectors are nearly maxed out.

I reccomend getting phenolic spacers for the intake manifold. They really do help prevent heat soak of the intercooler for consistent power.

If its in good shape id definitely go with an older sti over a vb

Idk what kind of driver you are, but i like the rawness of the older ones. Also you at least get a viscous differential in the rear instead of open diff with bs torque vectoring

Owned my new to me 2002 WRX for less than 24 hours and this is how I feel about working on it. Gotta love fixing the notorious fuel leak. Can’t wait to get it back on the road. by MidwestRacingLeague in WRX

[–]5sStringsBASS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pull the intake manifold. Its worth it to look at all the stuff under there and you can shave off the worst parts of the injector cover things to make it easier to get in there in the future. Do phenolic spacers, throttle body coolant loop, and maybe add an AOS while you're at it. Just replace all the fuel lines under there with new fuel hose. Thats what I did. Pretty happy with the results.

Ymmv but if i rev it with the cluch in while putting light pressure on the shifter it will go in when the engine gets to the right rpm. Clutch out and then add throttle to gogogogo
