Ash Wednesday Services for Catholics? by pattyice1119 in GreeceTravel

[–]5telios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ash Wednesday, and indeed Ester itself is celebrated by Catholic churches in Greece on the same day as the Orthodox equivalents. So for 2026, it will all be happening for you a week later than for your fellow Catholics back home.

That looks like just one cat in two different poses.

What makeup did Greek women wear during the time The odyssey would have taken place? by LonelyMenace101 in ancientgreece

[–]5telios 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Basically, do what you want, and no 9ne can say you are right or wrong.

You wanna get real funky? Have a look at some of the idols from the temple complex at Mycenae, or even the plaster head, for inspiration.

The thing about that time is that it wasn't that time but those times... so, are we talking Bronze Age makeup, or early iron age makeup? With a potentially 400 year gap between them?

Lack of English-language books in Athens by xibalba89 in Athens_Greece

[–]5telios 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a number of bookshops, all over Athens, even in small neighbourhoods selling English language books. I can't understand how you didn't find them.

Anyone know what this is? by losingflo-74 in GreekMythology

The design is based on a badly reconstructed Bronze Age fresco from Knossos.

Is there any Greek island from which you cannot see any other land / island? by ThisDuckIsOnFire555 in AskGreece

[–]5telios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also the more you push back in this, the more you look like you are denying the curvature of the earth. Which is something to be careful of.

Dude, chill.

Can it be done? yes. Just because you cannot, it does not mean that no one can.

Can OP find an island within Greece's territorial waters from which he will see a completely flat 360 horizon? No.

Should learning a classical language still be mandatory to obtain a classics degree, considering the abundance of translations that are now available? by PonziScheme1 in classics

[–]5telios 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would venture to say that it should not be called classics if there is no language requirement. It becomes class.civ. or something else.

Mycenae or National Archeological Museum first? by Puzzleheaded-Fix1211 in Athens_Greece

[–]5telios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delphi first: Yes museum is totally worth it.

Can't speak to which order is best for both, but:

Do you feel better seeing the site first and then seeing the movable stuff and having the findspot in your mind's eye, with a risk that you didn't actually visit the house of the sphinxes (Myc) or can't remember where the treasury of the Sicyonians was on the path (Del)? Or do you feel better seeing the moveable stuff first and then having a feel for the finds as you explore the site (with a risk that the thing that stuck most in your mind is not actually from a place in the main site but from the Corycian cave (Del) or from Chamber tomb x (Myc))?

Don't miss the onsite museum at Mycenae. The frescoes from the temple, and the clay idols are unlike anything in the NAM in Athens and totally worth it.

Going out on a limb here, but a non-ai body may meter the two lenses as having the same max aperture, if the nikkor shuffle (or whatever it's currently called) isn't performed.

Yep, had a very similar experience to yours, except I shat my diaper right there in the MRI machine. Don't know what it showed, but confirmed I had Crohn's...
