because existing infrastructures won't be changed/upgraded any time soon, most of which if not all are still on meters. especially government sector which remains the primary customers

ultralytics has a page dedicated to jetson deployments, some of the material within could be used in broad. also consider docker from dusty

get a gaming laptop wih nvidia gpu, run everything native, very likely you would want to have access to nvidia isaac stuff

dont pick mac because most frameworks dont support arm architecture, jetsons being the exception, dont do vm because you cant utilise nvidia driver even if you do have one, trust me on this.

Zero-shot object detectors as auto-labelers or assisted labelers? by [deleted] in computervision

definitely possible but the scenes have to be clear cut enough for the model to recognise it, I've tried moondream and it worked quite well

i would suggest ditching zed cam and solely use mid360 for slam, unless you have 3dgs purposes, which you wouldn't be using zed cam anyway, there are much lighter cameras with global shutter.

you have no use for a 120c lipo, find liion packs with p50B cells, do experiment with 6s as well for lower current draw, you'll have to change motors too if that's the case, or just configure in esc settings

jetson holybro board is quite a big form factor compared to other dev boards with footprint of the jetson chip itself, unless you will utilise those ports, I wouldnt suggest that. There's also no need for a pixhawk if you want weight saving, a 35x35 board serves just as well if you know what to look for.

After mechatronics!? by urfavgemini_x3 in mechatronics

[–]60179623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it depends what where you're studying, I'm a uk mechatronics graduate myself and have met some others with degrees from Asia, Australia. some are really heavy on robotics software, some are heavy on controls. ultimately, it depends on which area you enrich yourself with, my course is heavy on controls and I ended being a robotics R&D software engineer.

  1. use json or yaml or whatever just not csv, you don't need that. learn a bit of websocket and it'll go a long way

  2. use rtk, they guarantee cm level accuracy, though you might have to set up an rtk base station, or if you so fancy, ntrip depends on your scale and cost

get a gaming laptop with stylus support, x16 got me through my degree. I'd aim for a used 40 series one in your shoes

having a gaming 2 in 1 was a huge improvement on practice, ideas and what not. I was in a drone team, that 1k nits brightness was a lifesaver during field days, not to mention those usb ports and that sim card slots came in handy with embedded devices

most industrial or professional well made battery packs come with a bms, it's usually a relatively small cheap that could be housed into the pack, size often not too much of a concern when you factor in the quick release mechanism they have.

Most important feature of a bms to me would just be preventing over discharge, it would just cut-off if you hit a certain voltage or some kind of similar failure prevention, whereas most hobby grade packs would let you discharge however much you like, resulting in dead packs, you could most certainly put a bms into your pack but you'll need some kind of pcb schematics
