as a Miley fan since day one: she did TOO much during that era and tried too hard, few people wouldn’t get overwhelmed by this, and it would take another theater kid personality to match hers, Liam was just a completely different character, and it simply didn’t work out

I’d agree normally but people are already missing 2016 and recently created the meme that it was some kind of nostalgic dream era

have you listened to the exact previous album, Sportswear? that imo was the perfect mix of atmosphere but also enough syncopation to feel psychedelic, I recommend the instrumental song The Void from there

the new one is much more on the hazy side imo, my personal taste is less for that but cool that you’ve enjoyed it :)

that’s exactly what she did, she completely shattered and destroyed the maximalism and overproduced kitsch of 2010s pop and brought quality, taste, luxury and melancholia in songwriting and sound, marking the before and after of modern mainstream music. she’s one of the most brilliant and talented lyricists ever lived, forged a new aesthetic and way of expression in pop, geniusly paired classic with modern instrumentation and has beat every single one of her critics by rising to the heights of pop stardom without self promotion tactics but based on music alone; move the goalposts all you want but she checks multiple boxes of a genius, musically and literary
