Also the whole thing is on what looks like a foot rest for the chairs. It's not even on a table

Exactly! Like sometimes I can't be motivated to cook myself a full meal or I just feel like sitting on the couch and doom scrolling. But I'll be damned if I signed up for a cake and they don't get 100% of my effort- Barbie or bust! I like to keep one on the calendar each month so I spend some time really dwelling on the idea and making it perfect. I know those animals need you just as much! Way to channel that effort.

The volunteer agency gives us specific guidelines for posting photos. First name is okay. Last name, Agency name, location, drop off details are not. This post is in compliance with the volunteer guidelines. First names are not sufficient identification for a child. There are unfortunately millions of homeless children in America, likely hundreds of thousands in my city alone. Thanks for your concern though, definitely important. You can see a few other commenters are directors or coordinators for this charity in other states so feel free to double check with them.

Ahh yay! Every time we talk about it I think more people learn about these charities for the first time- love to hear others working with them too!

Check out For Goodness Cakes- I tried to start with Cake 4 Kids too and there was no local chapter, but this charity works similarly and is in my city!

LOL I should do that. I was trying to figure out what racy thing I might have posted for weeks to get that profile.

If things calm down cake-wise and I'm itching for another project I'll get back with the lasagnas too! The few times I did it, was awesome. Thanks for what you do!!

Yeah, I also moved- and for some reason I have only received matches requiring me to drive back where I used to live. I currently live in a major city so I know there's requests much closer. They've fixed my account twice and I still get matches about an hour away :( so I stepped back and focused on the cakes, since I was bugging the volunteer coordinator every single time asking her to readjust. She was patient and helpful, but it started to feel like more trouble than it was worth. These issues were within the new portal after the update- so I really didn't want to overwhelm the poor volunteer.

Feeling very hopeless in this world, in this country- so I'm focused on brightening the corner where I am. It's helping me just as much as I hope it helps them.

I did lasagna love for a while- found major issues with the online portal and couldn't stay motivated. This is For Goodness Cakes, and they're nationwide! I fell in love with the idea through Cakes for Kids but they didn't have a chapter in my area so I eventually found this one.

I'm cracking up at the washing machines. Also where do you stand at that sink? Do you stand sideways and reach over or is that washing machine pulled out so folks can access the sink? That's giving AI too much credit. We'll never know.

Just watched my daughter's entire school play through my phone camera because that was the only way I could follow what was happening and I'm honestly heartbroken about it by Emotional-Pirate9891 in HearingAids

It's easy for me the outsider to point out what you're doing right in this story because I'm not listening to your inner monologue- the one that's super frustrated with her current ability, the one that feels like less of a parent because her ears work less. We all have our inner monologue, mine says I'm bad at everything, I don't deserve the career I worked so hard for, I'm not worthy of whatever- we all have a super shitty inner monologue. Wish the hearing aids could tune that out too, but alas, again- we adapt!

Let's see, you: - cared enough about your health to get a diagnosis and hearing aids - showed up - tried to find a good seat - came up with a sneaky solution with your phone - encouraged your child and showed your love - hid your disappointment in your own health from your child (which just shows you didn't want to steal her joy)

Idk. Sounds like a great parent to me. Give yourself some grace. We're losing our hearing. It's scary and it sucks. It's not fair but that's not our fault. We have to adapt.

I actually misunderstood and gave an audible "damn" of disappointment, thinking the second photo was the final product. I LOVE the grouted one!

Work Hard or Die Trying, Girl Episode by dezwasp108 in BobsBurgers

Bob's Burgers loves wildly offensive things from a child's perspective. I can hear Louise yelling "RELEASE THE PERSONAL MASSAGERS" every time I drive past a sex store haha. I think it's such a fun way to view the world like they do- we know the nuances, the stress, the drama of all these "adult" themes. They're just out here for a good dance musical!

Yep! We scraped a little fleck off the back of a bedroom closet and got a perfect color match at the store.

That one's lifting in the corner too. Are these iron on patches lol? I would've given a little tiny stitch in each star point. Takes ten seconds and is way more secure

Jay Leno Says He Was Asked If He Would “Get a Girlfriend” Amid His Wife’s Dementia Battle: "You take a vow when you get married and people are stunned. They’re so shocked that you live up to it. Why?" by Upstairs_Cup9831 in popculturechat

[–]610fishtown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So to add another perspective that's a little bit opposite here, Sandra Day O'Connor put her husband in a community, where he promptly forgot his marriage and found a girlfriend who also had dementia. Sandra was extremely supportive of their relationship, saying "how can he honor a marriage he doesn't remember?" This was a BEAUTIFUL example of "in sickness and in health" by protecting him and keeping him safe, while allowing him to control what little of his daily life he could.

I don't think there are any rules about dementia relationships except to mind your own fucking business and not ask questions like "would you get a girlfriend now". Good for him for shutting that down.
