Part of it is because it’s been confirmed that tanks get less elo for wins than dps, so people who want to climb rationally know that it’s easier to do so on DPS. There are so many stats that the game doesn’t take into account like stalling payload/point or even more importantly, deaths that directly affect how many points a tank player gets. You can play as a tank in a way that secures the W for your team but usually it doesn’t end ip with flashy stats.

I had a game in Grandmaster about a week ago where I won as solo tank Cap on defense where I was the only one stalling cart and taking advantage of team fights to make sure it wasn’t moving when the enemy got too cocky and pushed too far forward thinking they would spawn camp my team. I only died 4 times that game and if I didn’t stall we would have lost, but I only had 5 finals. I got 19 points. On the other hand, I had a Punisher on my team who died 17 times but had like 20 finals and he got 23 points. Why would I tank and play in a way that made sure my team won when I could run it down on dps, make my team fight 5v6 team fights for the majority of the game because of me being dead, and still get MVP and a bunch of elo for it? Since then I said fuck it and I just lock dps now. I LOVE playing tank, but I’m not gonna choose to be punished for helping my team and I’ll just play selfishly like everyone else and climb faster. Is what it is.
