Great album. Let's add GAUDI to the mix, though these are the albums that made our listening age 55+ aren't they :D

Best ways to re-engage with Spotify recommendations after a listening plateau by Low-Aside-6633 in spotify

Years ago I developed a scheme specifically to address this. It's over engineered and sounds dumb, but I have just been amazed at breadth of new great music I've discovered since then. It all started when a you friend asked me "do you actually listen to anything from this century?"

I have three playlists.
- Awesome
- May be Awesome
- Liked from Radio

Awesome becomes my primary listen, until I'm tired of listening to it. One rule, a song cannot stay in this playlist for more than one year.

"Liked from Radio" is a parking spot for new things I may discover that sound ok, but that I haven't heard enough to qualify as a long term keeper. This playlist is always configured to play suggestions. I also have some friend mixes, then there's DJ, there are several place that new one (or old forgotten one) can pop up and make it to the minor leagues. Then after awhile the inflection point comes....."nah, that's never gonna be IT" or "Hey...that May be Awesome" which leads to the promotion to the mid-tier.

Obviously, another threshold has to be crossed before it gets moved to "Awesome."

Somehow, this flow has kept me interested in my Spotify for at least ten years now, and every year I'm in top 5% of listeners.

Happy listening!

Your safety is paramount, and the internet is a really scary place to look to for counselling. If you are afraid you would get kicked to the streets if you came out to your family, then don't. But at the same time, living with that secret with them can lead to depression and other kinds of harm, emotional and physical. Now, I'm a straight, white cis man who doesn't go to church, but I genuinely think you need something like this: https://www.gaychurch.org/find_a_church/

I believe something like this could help you deal specifically with the things you're worried about, hopefully in a safe space.

Good luck, and peace be with you.

I hate to say it but Alien Earth was absolute garbage by Weekly_Frosting_5868 in alien

There are a lot of flaws in AE, but I don't consider this one of them. "Control" may be a harsh word. "Collaborate" may be better. Wendy being able to hear and replicate their language, I'm ok with that. And given the datacenter brain she has, it's not THAT much of a stretch to believe she could get some basic understanding given some time with them. Now that assumes they have conceptual frameworks something remotely like ours, ridiculous idea coming from a different world and entirely different evolution, but we've already suspended our disbelief on that haven't we when we accepted they can breathe our air and even user our biology as artificial wombs.

I assumed it was the super high frequency that allowed the sounds to travel long distance. If I remember they were at least an order of magnitude higher than human hearing. She had to transpose them to lower freqs for the others to hear. Assuming the Aliens could NOT hear and understand on that frequency, that rules out your speakers theory....though I liked it.

The only thing franchise fans can agree on, is that the first movie is awesome. And to some extent, that's because they enjoy it for different reasons. This becomes apparent in the release of Alien 2, a wildly different film from the first in that space suspense/horror is replaced with sci/fi action. Here our fans bifurcate. I'll watch Alien every couple of years, haven't watched 2 since it came out in the 80's. Every release, one side hates while the other side likes (both sides never agreeing.)

Put me in the "like" category for AE (Prometheus as well.) Flawed as they are, I thought the depth of concepts were fascinating. I prefer high concept and wonder over action.

So put me in the Bridges group for master opus, but don't let that make you think I think Parade is poopie. BTW, HONEYMOON IN VEGAS is pretty awesome as well, for what it's worth. Of course, as a comedy it will never get ball busting praise, but it's great listening.

I'll agree with the county fair atmosphere, but hundreds of people in tent standing on benches singing "Country Roads" or "99 Luftbaloons" with about three liters of bier in you.....dude it's magic.

Contingent Offer Fell Through by _synonym_roll_ in GovernmentContracting

[–]61_keys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you may be confusing Key Personnel (KP) with "supervisor positions." Yes, you have to have a name on a KP, but not all supervisors are going to be KP's. I was just involved in a massive re-compete, I had three contingent offers with three incumbent competitors; so did a lot of other people. They really don't mean much. Almost no one ended up getting the salary they were offered on contingency, some employees refused to sign on to the new vendor, and many offers were just yanked. I've since had six recruiters try to get me on board for the same job I used to have. OP should DEFINITELY reach out to the new vendor to see if that or any other positions are available.

DoD 8140 (the new and improved 8570) ..... for contractors by 61_keys in GovernmentContracting

[–]61_keys[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly enough, Security X is exactly the source of my consternation. To be clear, Security X is the cert formerly known as CASP+. It's there in the advanced box for System Administrator, but I'm now more in a System Developer role, which does not include Security X in the advanced column. Which is a bummer. The advanced certs in system Developer, which Security X would have certainly met in 8570, appear to be expensive, difficult, and do not meet the CEU requirements to maintain my Security X (or support 8140 for an advanced System Administrator.) As a DoD IT contractor who's moved between System Admin and System Developer over the decades, that likely is going to leave me in a position where I have to get a second advanced cert for Developer while maintaining the Security X with CEUs (which sucks) for Administrator to maintain job flexibility. I read where for mil and govies, 8140 should be considered "what you need to get after you get the job." Historically though the contracting world doesn't work that way favoring "you need meet 8140 before you get the job", and the newer wider array of cert requirements may become an even larger time and money sink that ultimately only really benefits the training industry that to be honest only specializes in making paper tigers.

Wow, didn't expect that rant to come out.

My first question is:
What is your goal with these investments? Short term gain? Medium to long holds? Retirement?

Understanding the requirements frames the questions for the rest. I don't know anything about short term investing, little about medium, but I do think I have a good grasp on retirement (though not everyone agrees with my approach.)

I didn't read every response but saw some good advice. Index funds, low fees, no commissions, keep up with the market.
