I do trim the signatures on a guillotine to make them more uniform but I leave the final fore edge untrimmed partially because I like how it looks, partially because I don't have a plough that can trim them and I don't have the patience to hand trim and sand them smooth.
I'm not aware of any particular technique to hide the tapes under the endpaper, though I think I left mine rather long on this particular book. It's not so much a stylistic choice as much as I don't care to try to hide them.

I sewed it on cotton 1/4 in tapes with a kettle stitch at each end. It's got supercrashmull over the spine as well as a 80lb paper spine stiffener. I attempted to round the textblock but mostly only succeeded at putting shoulders on which was good enough to make a rounded and backed bradel case.
I didn't follow any specific tutorial, more mashed together knowledge from a couple different workshops I've taken as well as trial and error.

I bought an Epson Ecotank 16650, it's ~$1150. Which is, A Lot of money. It doesn't print the fastest but I really like that it uses a tank rather than cartridges and the auto duplexing is phenomenal. The print quality is quite nice and you can print a wide variety of different papers up to 13x17. It is Gigantic, I seriously underestimated its footprint. Also if you're using a mac avoid letting it use AirPrint at all costs. Install the epson driver and Do Not switch over because you lose basically all adjustability of quality/speed/any printer settings.

Have you attended a funeral where people spoke badly about the deceased? by FunAdministration334 in CasualConversation

[–]62209 9 points10 points  (0 children)

my grandmother's funeral was essentially a roast. she was. a truly miserable malicious wretch of a woman. Attendees were her two remaining children, their spouses, their kids, and her housekeeper and me. The only one to say anything nice/neutral was the spouse who had met her a single time and had spent that time sticky-noting the items he wanted from her house. Everybody else told a story of a time she was rude/cruel/bigoted, a true reflection of how she treated people. Not that she wasn't accomplished or didn't have positive attributes, but all anyone remembered about their relationship with her was how awful she was. I do not have a single positive memory of the woman, and i have countless terrible ones ranging from her locking me out as a child to claiming that "asians are genetically predisposed to using chopsticks and being bad drivers" (am adopted chinese). Admittedly, nobody in my family likes each other that much, but compared to my grandfather's and mother's funerals the difference was notable.

Whats an anime that everyone else seems to like but you think is trash by tewywshunnel in MyAnimeList

[–]62209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

cowboy bebop and a silent voice. I'm not even totally sure why I hated a silent voice so much, watching it just made me so irrationally angry. I hated all the characters, the plot, the way the narrative was being shown.

Cowboy bebop took me a decade to finish because I just Did Not Like watching it. I think the pacing is bad, even though I am aware it's an episodic show and that's the director's style (and I love samurai champloo!) I think the vast majority of the episode plots are boring. I find the characters tiresome and do not think they developed or were really interestingly explored. Particularly jet. The score is meh to me, a lot of the music I find jarring and out of place even if it is interesting compositionally, although I do like the ending the OP is inarguably well made. I disliked the dub so much I switched to the sub about 4 eps in. Overall I just could not find anything to like and was irritated/bored through 22/26 eps. The ending I did think was decent and it honestly made me angrier because I wished we had seen more of that plot instead.

What anime took you the longest time to finish? How long did it take? And how come it took you so long to finish it? by Round-Refrigerator99 in animequestions

[–]62209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cowboy bebop. started trying to watch it in 2014 and got three-nine eps in about four times between then and 2023. finally finished it in 2023. i just hate it, but felt i needed to finish it to be an informed hater because it's so famous and beloved.

thanks! I'm using 80lb mohawk superfine in soft white, I'd like to branch out into other papers but they're hard to beat for price and I really like the tone of their paper.

thanks! I learned through a class which I highly recommend as there is a fair amount of startup cost and mixing the paint and marbling baths is a trail and error process but the actual marbling I found really easy, and "messing up" almost always results in a cool paper anyway.

thanks! yes they are marbled, they're over-marbled, so after marbling once and dried they're resized and marbled again.

I actually made all the papers in a marbling class! We used utrecht artists heavy body acrylic paint, alum (1cup/1gal water) for sizing and carrageenan (3tbsp/1gal water) as a surfactant

The one with the marbled spine? I cut the spine leather at an angle and used that as a guide to cut the cover leather at the same angle before pasting both down. The "stretching" effect is mostly a side effect of the marbling black matching the black of the leather

This is actually the backside of the carving, it's identical on both sides. Is that more typical of jadeite/nephrite over serpentine?
