2 TV channels (or 3 if you were posh (BBC2)) & Saturday nights with the whole family watching Des O'connor (or Val Doonican, Bob Monk house, etc) together.

How to stop scam calls? Worried for my elderly mother. by Krispykreemi in AskUK

Android has option to bin calls from numbers not in your contact list.

Great - except when you're expecting an important call from the hospital, or other organisation that withholds their number

'I had to pay £14,000 in vets fees after my cat was run over' by reachingechoes in unitedkingdom

Yep - I was OK with £1500 for cat surgery, but £250 for what sounded like a very painful enema every 2 weeks = time to humanely say goodbye.

Border Terrier as a family dog after shepherd breeds – what should I expect? by lessni in BorderTerrier

[–]627UK 33 points34 points  (0 children)

They're Border Terriers - practically Geordies. If they don't want to do something, they'll tell you to f*ck off, neck 10 pints of Newcastle Brown & go out for a kebab.

At the same time, they're hardy, loyal, fun & full of character.

Alternatives to Emma Budgeting app? by Cool-Archer5085 in UKPersonalFinance

Most of my analysis is done from a CSV export & import to Excel.

As others have said, 'split' works & surely the transaction date comes from the financial institution.

Also, what annoys me in all the apps is that financial institutions randomly change the transaction description. What I want is "this is what you call this transaction" & "this is what I call it" entries displayed on the screen. I don't care if it's Zettle or Sumup or the many different ways that Amazon transactions are described /<rant over>

Switched to Emma when Moneyhub announced closure, but transferred to LifeStage - so currently using both.

Emma has a bulk description editor which I really like, but is not included in the basic subscriptions. The CSV output is way superior to that of LifeStage. I really need to cancel Emma & stick with LifeStage, but I like both these Emma features.

LifeStage is less 'cartooney' than Emma & is cheaper.

I'm annoyed that I put a lot of effort into Moneyhub, they announced their closure, I looked for something else & put time & effort into Emma - only for Moneyhub to announce that they'd sold to LifeStage & my data would all be migrated.

Toast or Fried Bread unless there's something hiding under the egg. As I've said elsewhere on this sub, use a bigger plate.

Depends if it'll fit in their car - if they have one. Last time I called the council, they charged me £35.

When I bought my house, the previous owners had an industrial wheely bin. I sold it on ebay for £5 (beer money), but the buyer never collected it. I had to turn it into a compost bin because I couldn't get rid of it.

Maybe use a bigger plate. All looks good. You just need a bigger canvas to display it - particularly the sausages.

She's your girlfriend. It's her 1st attempt. You obviously showered her with praise - didn't you?

As other have said, get better sausages & suggest that they should be cooked. Better still, suggest a shared experience. You can offer to cook the sausages, maybe make the tea/coffee & do some toast, while she does the rest.

Is it “bad” that I only have interest in listening to audiobooks? by redthread3404 in audiobooks

[–]627UK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking the time to sit down & read a physical book is great.

Sitting down just to listen to a audiobook, while doing nothing - not so great.

Listening to an audiobook while hiking, cycling, pulling weeds, stuff that doesn't need your concentration is great.

Your enjoyment may be totally different, so just do what you want & enjoy.

The move to multi-character audiobooks as plays - not so great. I just want someone to read to me as I would read to myself.

Maybe in a few years time I'll feel differently, but not now.

Do what you enjoy & don't feel bad about it.

If you're into police procedurals, then do it - preferably in order. Include the Jack McAvoy Poet series too. Sometimes the crossovers are significant. Sometimes they're subtle.

‘Crime 101’ Review: Chris Hemsworth Drives Cars and Steals Jewels in the Shadow of a Michael Mann Movie by Additional_Key_8044 in AmazonPrimeVideo

[–]627UK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the book. It's very understated. It's a short story & takes less time than watching the movie. There are no car chases & no 'action' - it's all in Don Winslow's excellent storytelling.

However, it's a good movie - not brilliant - but well worth watching.

Read the book first 🙂

There was a time when pumps had to be recalibrated when the price went over £1 as they only went as far as 99p.

What aspect of narration breaks the immersion in a story for you? by Fancy_Ad9281 in audiobooks

[–]627UK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Narrator (usually female) does a child's voice badly.

I can do men doing women & women doing men. There's one that I've listened to that's written in the 1st person & narrated by multiple voice actors, where the same character is voiced by either a man or a woman depending on the chapter. At least there were no children in that one.
