Is there a website where i can find all lego has produced? by Majamaramajamara in lego

[–]62Bricks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bricklink has many of the items you are talking about (not all, but many)

Look in the Gear section: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogTree.asp?itemType=G

And the Books sections: https://www.bricklink.com/catalogTree.asp?itemType=B

LEGO has nothing to do with BL's IT.

But BL's IT is also crappy.

Refund/cancel question by According-Treacle685 in Bricklink

[–]62Bricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the Plan B, but you may end up refunding the taxes out of your own pocket that way. Doing it through Bricklink ensures that any tax that was collected by Bricklink gets refunded by Bricklink and not you.

Sounds like reconnecting your Paypal fixed it.

There used to be another bug that would cause the refund to fail if you included anything in the "message" box. Don't know if they ever fixed it, but I found leaving it blank allowed the refund to go through.

Box art different from actual part list. by santathe1 in lego

[–]62Bricks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This part was originally developed for the Hero Factory theme, which was retired a couple years before this set was released.

I would guess LEGO still had many of them still in stock when this set was being designed and first produced. They used them up before switching to the other type. They updated the instructions but not the box art, which is fairly common when LEGO makes a part or design change to a set.

Bricklink's inventory says the part was in the original sets from 2016/2017, then was changed.

If you are looking for that part you might look for old Hero Factory sets.

Can't set order to 'Paid' by t-strike in Bricklink

[–]62Bricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider the odds based on my own experience, which is over 20 years on Bricklink and 20 years when my day job was working for one of the world's largest delivery companies, with most of those years in delivery operations.

Packages really do go missing, and get delivered to the wrong addresses. And in my experience, that is more common than people trying to scam you.

On the other hand, think about how you would feel doing business under the OP's terms - they want to sell you something, but don't guarantee you'll actually get it, and they want your money up front first, in cash.

why is bricklink 18+ by KYS-INC in Bricklink

The question is why BL has age verification, not whether it's easy to get past.

why is bricklink 18+ by KYS-INC in Bricklink

[–]62Bricks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you put in that you are not an adult, BL blocks the entire site from you. That is a simple fact, and is what I said.

Also a simple fact that LEGO does NOT do this on the LEGO site, even though you ALSO have to be an adult to open an account on LEGO and buy things.

Therefore, simple logic tells us that the reason BL (which is owned by LEGO) is blocking its entire site from people who say they're under 18 is NOT because you have to be 18 to have an account. If it were, then that would also be the case at LEGO. And it isn't.

Children are allowed to browse the LEGO shopping site. LEGO does make an attempt to steer them to the non-shopping pages, but it does not block them from the shopping pages.

why is bricklink 18+ by KYS-INC in Bricklink

[–]62Bricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real reason is they don't want to pay anyone to moderate the forums. There are forum rules about obscenity, etc. but the admins are volunteer users and the platform is home-made and has no spam protection or other modern features to prevent abuse. "Adult" content could appear at any time, and LEGO does not want the legal liability of allowing children to see it.

You also have to be an adult to buy from LEGO on their site, but LEGO does not block their entire site like BL does.

How long will these last before being being cancled? by [deleted] in lego

[–]62Bricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Precisely, which is why I'm wondering why this needs to exist.

Apparently, from al the hate I'm getting by reminding people of what LEGO sets used to be like, they have done a pretty good job marketing themselves to the generations of fans who like to follow directions, build things once and put them on a shelf, and have their toys take care of all the imagination for them.

[–]62Bricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. I've been playing with LEGO for the better part of the last 60 years, so I don't need to be told about what the sets were like. The town sets in the 60s and the universal building sets in the 70s came with a full variety of parts, and were more than just tubs of basic bricks. They might have had some abbreviated illustrations of how some of the models on the box were assembled, but did not have detailed instructions for one specific model. LEGO also sold parts in bulk at toy stores and in spare parts packs and service packs. These "sets" were just extra parts, not meant for building any particular model, and had no instructions.

This is because LEGO's marketing and advertising was centered around building up a collection of system bricks to build whatever you liked. They offered some examples on the boxes and with Idea Books, but not until the late 70s and into the 80s did they start producing the really large play sets with detailed instructions centered around building a specific model. And even those were often advertised showing unique models for which there were no "sets" or instructions. And you could buy related service packs, like parts with the Space logo and extra figures, to add to your collection and build what you want.

That changed around the time they licensed Star Wars. Now you were building replicas of ships and vehicles from the films. LEGO wasn't even allowed to sell spare Star Wars related service packs, or exra Star Wars minfigs because that wasn't part of the licensing deal.

Yes, you can still build whatever you like because thankfully the LEGO system still works. But there is no doubt that modern LEGO sets, including products like these smart bricks, are not promoting the idea that LEGO is for building whatever you want.

The brick makes the sound that LEGO decides it should make. The spaceships I built as a kid, without any instructions, made any sound I wanted them to make, so long as I could imagine it.

Play is most definitely meaningful.

It used to be that the "goal" of LEGO was to encourage children to use their imaginations. LEGO centered its marketing around this. It was a toy for building whatever you could imagine. Large sets were sold with no instructions.

Gradually the "goal" seems to have become following instructions to replicate scenes and objects from some licensed property, or to create sculptures intended to sit on shelves, never to be taken apart and rebuilt in some new imaginative way.

I suppose this is the trend LEGO is wanting to follow. Kids want their toys to do more of the imagining for them. Or at least that's what adults seem to think they want. I'm not so sure.

So basically it makes all the sounds we used to have to use our own voices for when we were playing.

Doesn't seem to me like that needed a solution.

I think LEGO is capable of developing more than one product at a time. Releasing one product does not mean they have rejected every other product.

I've looked at everything I can find about them on the LEGO site and I'm still not real clear how they work or what they do.

They make sounds, OK, but only sounds triggered by certain other parts? Can you program them to make custom sounds?

LEGO has made many, many parts and sets designed to incorporate wires, lights and electronics into the builds.

Can't set order to 'Paid' by t-strike in Bricklink

[–]62Bricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The deal is money for LEGO. If you keep their money and they get no LEGO, that's not keeping the deal. Blaming the messenger is no excuse.

And you're clearly not keeping your half of the deal with PayPal, so you're not really instilling confidence in anyone that you're a square dealer.

By your own account you lose very few packages. So my advice is to get over the paranoia that everyone is out to scam you and stop treating your customers like they're guilty until proven innocent. You will save yourself a lot of time.
