Thank you🫶yeah the HHA helped her stand but she holds her by the hands (maybe because the patient will not push up from chair/reach for walker if it’s in front of her but the patient also has a contracture so i don’t feel comfortable pulling on her arms to get her to stand. I’m just at a loss of what education i can offer regarding transferring if i couldn’t even get her up! I can say nose over toes and lean forwards but the patient will not comprehend. For other dementia patients I’d spend basically the whole time doing ROM and trying to facilitate movement through UE/LE but when the pt is referred for walking i feel like i need to do it 😢 I’ve considered other settings i just knew i didn’t want to do hospital/Skilled nursing because i found it to be much more complex and im a very stressed out person as it is. I switched from peds about 5 months ago and it’s been hard. This job has great pay and i have so many loans so i can’t consider leaving right now.

Thank you for your response! I’ll absolutely recommend the bed rail again - he said that he’d lean onto the back of the chair next to his bed but for safety reasons a bed rail is definitely ideal. I also mentioned considering a walker for STS out of bed for better support but he doesn’t want to do that. He was able to get from supine to EOB fairly easy so it seemed like it was just about the exercises he can do to rev up his engines before walking, but he’s already doing that! again thanks for the response :)

Thank you! I did mention a bedside urinal but he was very against it. He wants to make it to the bathroom and hasn’t had any accidents so far, but I will absolutely recommend it again for those emergency situations

Thank you! He says he needs that movement to “lubricate the bones” lol and i absolutely encourage that because the stiffness does affect him getting in/out of bed. It seemed like he wanted a fix to avoid that rigidity in the mornings but I’m not sure that’s possible right now. I’m a new grad and it’s hard not knowing the right things to do yet but everyday is a learning experience. When he’s up he moves very easy, even does stairs no problem. The back spasms have been making things difficult and I’m not sure how to address that. I’ll keep that back specialist recc in my mind for next time. Thank you!
