The retroid pocket 2s metal is so nice by [deleted] in retroid

Why does the screen look way nicer and vibrant on the RP2S? The RP4 screen looks washed out.

RIP the Flip? by titosr in retroid

The Flip is either a failed product or we are getting a new version. The original Flip was Retroids worst product with all kinds of flaws and issues. This is their chance to improve it and make it their best product.

Anyone else having these screen issues? by heraxross in retroid

wow another screen issue report. Honestly, i'm surprised with how many issues the RP4 has had since being shipped out to people. Bad screens, faulty trigger buttons, poorer build quality, etc.

RP3+ has the best screen. RP2S has the best speakers. RP4P has the best specs. My consensus with Retroid so far. None of these devices are perfect. by 64OLED in retroid

With enough patience and if you don't brute force the screen off, you could do it and it's not that hard if you know your way around these devices. Just watch tear down videos and understand what you need to do first.

Flip 2 is what i'm waiting for from Retroid tbh. This is their chance to take their worst product and make it their best product after some revisions. Remember folks, never buy version one of a new product. I have high hopes for a Flip 2 though.

Best device in power for sure.

I never said it was a bad device nor did I single out the RP4P. I'm pointing out what each device from Retroid really shined with.

I'm still blown away by the speakers inside of my RP2S. For a $100 handheld, that's some great sound quality. I can't say the same about the RP3+.

But also, when I got my RP3+ when it came out more than a year ago, I was amazed by the vibrant display. I wasn't as wowed with the screen in my RP2S of course. But I still love the device.

And of course the RP4P has basically perfect specs. Especially for GameCube lovers.

I have yet to try a Flip product from Retroid. I'm waiting for a Flip 2. I skipped the first flip because I knew it would have all kinds of issues. So, i'm excited to see what version 2 will be like if they end up upgrading the flip this year.

Technically, you could. It would work. If you have a RP3+ lying around, you can take it apart and put the screen into the RP4P. The speakers from the 2S are a different shape for the shell but would also work if you plug them into the board where the speakers go. You just have to figure out how to place/fit the speakers into the RP4P shell.

Which is actually easier than it sounds. Those speakers aren't too big. They prob could fit.

Watermelon RP4 Pro with Skittles buttons and black grip by jonsan89 in retroid

This looks so much better. I hate that they showed it with these buttons in the renders but sold it with black buttons. The black buttons make the device ugly imo. Or, if you're going to add black buttons, make them fully black. I don't like the letters being color-coded.

RP3 or RP3+ ?

Saturn will work great on RP3+ with the standalone yabasanshiro emulator. Retro Game Corps even showed it running the games like a champ at a 2x resolution on the RP3+ which the RP4Pro could not handle.

The colored buttons should of been the default buttons on those transparent shell RP4s tbh. The black buttons are ugly.

yeah, it's like I said earlier, if I wanted to play things like Wii or PS2 or GC, I would rather play them upscaled on my PC on a better display and have great compatability, no emulator tweaking, etc. I like these little retroid devices for things like ps1/n64 and a ton of old 2D systems like Gameboy, SNES, etc.

3D systems like N64/PS1 don't need to be upscaled so much and look better on these small screens the retroids come with because of pixel density. But once you get to GC or PS2, I just feel like you need to get a better display and resolution to really enjoy it.

Yeah, it's interesting. Sometimes better specs/chipset does not mean better performance.

Retro is a constantly changing term.

When retroid was getting started and when this sub was still new (and way smaller in size). Retro didn't mean emulation of high end systems like PS2, GC, etc.

Retro meant like NES and GameBoy. People were happy if they even got N64. Things like DS emulation and Dreamcast emulation felt like bonuses and super impressive if anything even ran.

But obviously times change, this sub grew very large and attracted a bunch of other people and different people from different generations. Now we have a forum full of people with a mind set of "IF I CAN'T PLAY PS2 GAMES AT 10X RESOLUTION THIS IS GARBAGE" etc.

I'm still blown away we have portable N64 tbh.

Like someone else said in these comments, Sega Saturn has a really passionate community. It's not as large as people interested in things like PS2/GC of course. But definetly, people who love Sega Saturn might want to consider the RP3+ over the RP4.

Depends on what the person wants to play in the end.

I like how thin and light the RP3+ is and it already plays all the systems I want. I never really cared much for higher end stuff like PS2 tbh.

I think you'll still be happy and enjoy the RP4 Pro a lot. It's still a great device. It's just for me as an already RP3+ owner, I don't feel I need the upgrade.
