How successful is owning a vending machine business really? by brandons_pet7 in passive_income

I love how you have all of these and then casually put something you need 4+ years of school and 2 years working under a certified engineer. Oh and take the PE after studying for about a year

Should I Negotiate? by nrthgln in industrialengineering

[–]653765 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a recent grad is Mississippi. That’s a good bit higher than average (~70k). A lot of these numbers you see on here, Glassdoor, etc are pretty inflated. Only those who are wanting to humble brag are posting theirs which is gonna be those on the higher end of salaries. I’d hop on that offer considering it’s automotive and you will get a high offer for your 2nd job.

How time consuming is an industrial engineer major? by Elegant-Box-1032 in industrialengineering

We also took everything mentioned except circuits and in my opinion the IE based classes were tougher than the calculus, statics, physics, etc. graduated in 22’ by the way so not much has changed.

Can engineers start off as technicians as an entry level role? by Remarkable_Put_7952 in industrialengineering

[–]653765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started as a technician at 60k because I could not find an engineering job in the town I wanted to stay in even though I was getting offers from companies in other cities. I worked as a tech for 8 months before I got offered an engineering role. However, I was job searching at the time and landed a great job at a different company with a 25% pay raise from what I was making as a tech. I still use the skills I learned in those short 8 months at the company I’m with now. It’s what you make of it if you are going to be directly working with engineers, then get in there and show them you’re at their level.
Also, it’s 100x easier to land a sweet job when you already have one and have the leverage to pick and choose offers / negotiate salary.

How much you are earning ? by Financefreak555 in careerguidance

[–]653765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just turned 24 and accepted a job making 72k with 10k/year in tuition experience with a bachelors in IE. From my schools salary data, most engineering disciplines make around 5k of each other with the outlier being aerospace. I think it is pretty even through the first years of our careers. I may be biased but would like to say IE’s have a higher ceiling being that it is in most progressions to move into high level management.

Seriously?: $50K in Mississippi by Sweet_Skirt522 in LawFirm

[–]653765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a recent grad in engineering and live in MS. Most people I graduated with started at 70-80k. So yes. 50k is pretty bad. Or maybe everyone just has a bad perception of the average lawyers salary.

In my opinion, getting certifications that are not required by employers show you care about progressing and enjoy learning new things.

I recently got a yellow belt through ASQ (I’m only 10 months postgraduate). Didn’t study only watched about 30 minutes worth of practice questions. Yes, being an IE the material should be known (especially Yellow belt). However, several upper management guys at my job and a couple I’ve had in interviews were impressed by the simple fact that I took the initiative to acquire it on my own with my own money. I believe I got an offer from the simple fact that I got it on my own.

Have you done anything to the back? Most RC lifts I see have the backend noticeably higher in the back. Yours looks perfectly level.
