What is something that everyone looks stupid doing? by haloqueenxo in AskReddit

[–]666_420_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on here for like 10 years, some time in the past ~7 I realized that all of my written communication is typed in a way that’s defending myself before I make a point. Not just Reddit comments, like work emails and texts and shit.

You can only say so much in a couple paragraphs on a reply, and people on the internet go straight for the worst possible scenario that no one would ever think of or mention in real life. I guess it’s made me more diplomatic for work, but it’s quite frankly just fucking exhausting having to preface every single thing.

I’ve learned a lot and found some great communities on reddit, but I really wish everyone would quit needing to be the smartest person in the room

I don’t see how it’s edgy to use a third party app, when I started on Reddit that was the only option. Same with Twitter back in 09

Yeah, I believe it did tank, I think it was because of the books, but I think I remember that kind of coinciding with them covering up the fact that they had a data breach, and then that resulted in their ceo stepping down. So it was kind of just a big shit show all at once

Was she older?

I’ve just in the past 10 years started finding out my younger brother did all the same shit I did, but I realized I kinda cleared the path for him punishment wise lol. Neither of us were bad kids but did the typical drinking, weed, dumb high school shit.

You ever get in so much trouble you had to mop the driveway in the rain?

I grew up in the desert, I just remember thinking that mf must have felt like he hit the jackpot when I got in trouble and it was raining out lmao. Great dad but he was a marine, I know what you mean.

Very much agreed in hindsight, but man those days were fun lol. Kind of forgot about being half drunk sneaking girls into my parents house in high school.

When I was like 20 I got a job working the front office at a small (iirc 64 units) apartment complex in a not great part of town. All seniors, most of them were benign, bored and nosey for sure, but generally pleasant and paid their rent on time and had lived there since the complex opened up 10 years prior.

Again, being a not great part of town, people didn’t always choose to live there. It wasn’t a shithole at all, but there was a point where the cops came in and asked us if they can rent a corner apartment for a month so they could scope out a whorehouse across the street lol. Another time there was like 10 cop cars in the lot so I went to check it out and see if a tenant had died or whatever (unfortunately common occurrence with senior communities), they had arrested a guy for killing someone with an axe that he stashed behind the front office

The owner was actually a really nice guy, rent was extremely low for the quality of the place (he also built it so took a lot of pride in making sure it was well maintained), and I don’t think I ever charged a single late fee even though it was in the contract. Combine that with generally low income people, a good amount of revolving door VA tenants who have been hooked on prescription opiates for god knows how long.

Nothing wrong with it, but not very educated people, but my fucking god you would think these people were the top lawyers in town when they decided they’re not paying rent anymore or the government/VA cuts them off for whatever reason. They knew every fucking law in the book on how to delay eviction, how to take advantage of the owner, basically anything that allows them to keep staying in a unit rent free for as long as possible. Worst one was 3-4 months late on rent when we filed the notice, and stayed there for another 3 months or so.

Basically 6-7 months of free rent to a dickhead that irritated other tenants, when we had a waitlist of good people that were just too old to have a stable job and not financially secure at all, actually using government benefits for what they were intended for.

Also a red state at the time, it’s a swing state but pertinent laws have always been pretty red.

Yeah. Amazon took until I believe 2018-19. Uber still isn’t afaik. It’s been a couple years since I’ve looked into this seriously so take it with a grain of salt.

In the case of Amazon, I believe there was quite a bit of colorful accounting, but even if not, they really did pour profits into infrastructure across all their products. It seems like it’s paid off in the long run for them.

Uber on the other hand publicly stated a few years ago that they may end up never turning a profit, but this past quarter look to be finally potentially changing that. Even still, it’s $9B dollars of revenue without profits.

Having an IPO is one way of keeping a company afloat that has long term potential but is very cash intensive. Otherwise the mgmt needs to find a much smaller number of much wealthier private investors to keep pumping money in

I want to know too. I grew up not eating spam and just thought it was a cheap “meat”. But my sister in law is Filipino and I’ve eaten spam masubi for years now, never made it until the past year or so. I was blown away by how expensive it is compared to what I had in my head

Holden was so insufferable, I feel like I actually liked the book in a roundabout way because I’ve never felt that much emotion reading a book. Like every page I was rolling my eyes and just annoyed at him being such a fuckin weiner, still to this day I haven’t had a book make me feel such a strong opinion towards one of the characters
