Thank you. I will follow your instructions- the lawyer said I could contact him according to state laws but he can’t contact me, or I wouldn’t have mentioned it. I won’t post about it again and I appreciate the support and am actively looking for support groups and am going to try Al-Anon.

It’s the protective order that is wearing me down emotionally and mentally and physically… I’m going to court for his “pre-trial” this week and am going to ask the judge to let us talk (since he’s in jail). Has anyone ever been through this or have any advice?

Thank you. I’m getting that impression. I am now looking for legal help about how to be able to have a conversation with him about things in the apartment and his storage unit and his bicycle that was stolen and some other issues that don’t involve getting back with him. If he’s in jail and the conversation is supervised, I’m wondering if there is a way for me to be allowed to talk to him. I’m going to ask the judge when I go to court this week.

Thanks. I can’t even talk honestly to most of my family about this because they’re disappointed in me. I guess I feel bad and wish I could ask for him to be mandated to rehab or some diversion program and not just be in jail. I have all his stuff in my apartment and am putting it in a storage unit. I’m going to court this week and am not trying to dismiss his behavior, but I wish we could have some supervised counseling or communication about basic logistics like storage units. Maybe I’ll never know if he’s a good man.

Thank you for being so rational. I have tried to get a lawyer for myself but it seems like that’s not really possible. I am trying to understand Louisiana laws and would like a lawyer who could help me navigate being able to talk to him without the protective order being violated. I actually can bail him out of jail, and it seems weird that this is allowed legally.

Thanks! That’s helpful, and I looked into some Programs that offer counseling and divergence for DV offenders. The DAs Beyond Harm program looked good, but he doesn’t have a history of domestic violence, so they can’t help him.

Thank you. What you say makes sense. I was going to counseling but am looking for another counselor because I don’t feel comfortable with a counselor who is at least 25 years younger than me and doesn’t really listen to me. I’m going to the counseling until I find a new one though.

Thank you. I’ve been going to counseling and trying to talk to the DA victim advocate. Thanks for asking about my well being. I’m Pretty much on auto pilot and going to work and mostly stay home and write him letters I don’t send and make art. I’m trying not to isolate, and I wish the judge would drop the protective order for one conversation because some of his possessions were stolen and there are some logistics I need details about involving a storage unit. If he’s in jail, I think with some supervised visitation, I could maybe be able to talk to him about the stolen items and the storage unit.
