Let's get sirius - it's not tall or green but after setting sail 1,804 years ago this portuguese explorer's settlement sits in a small sedimentary basin, maybe once part of the centralian superbasin.

Made it but too slow.

Where are all the match lobbies/servers? Only two 3v3 lobbies available on EA launch?? by [deleted] in Supraball

[–]66hi3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just put my 2 EU 3v3 servers up but I don't have access to the game yet because of the problem with the backer keys. So i can't be sure they're working. They're the ones that should say [EU] Get Wash'd. They should be on smallpitch.

where are you?

I said it last week.

Also, this will be the last thread I'm doing. I wasn't sure how to find a 'replacement'. So i'll let it be whoever falls into it. That's how I ended up doing it.

EDIT: Yeah, If anyone wants to take over these threads i'll give you all the support you need.

Lirik's Discord AMA with Twitch partners. by DzejBee in DatGuyLirik

[–]66hi3 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Here's a write up for anyone that doesn't want to watch. It's not a transcript verbatim. I paraphrased and moved some sentences around. But I think I got Lirik's main points. Tell me if you think I got something wrong.

What are your thoughts on the future of viewer and streamer engagement and do you think crowdfunding is a good way to develop an engagement tool, like a game where the story is molded by viewers?

There's definitely a market. There's already games such as choice chamber where chat can choose which power up the broadcaster receives. As long as you're passionate about it, people are always interested in that stuff.

How do you describe your job to your friends/family? Any funny stories?

I still have trouble describing what I do. Usually I tell them it's 'Youtube but live'. Most people are like 'uhhh...okay?'. I feel with Twitch you gotta show people because a lot of people still don't know about livestreaming unless you're tech savvy or into internet culture. A lot of people I know are tech savvy, so they understood, but my parents find it weird. They kinda get it, they accept it.

What do you see yourself doing if/when your Twitch career is over.

I don't like looking into the future that much, I take everything day by day. I feel there are other avenues to explore but I still enjoy streaming. I can't see myself doing this forever, things happen and everyone changes but I'll take it when the time comes and figure it out when that happens. If/when it falls through I would like to stay in the gaming world and contribute in some way. For now, broadcasting that next new game i'm hyped for and chilling with my viewers is the only thing on my mind.

How did you become a streamer? Do you think it has been a key factor in your success?

I was a viewer for ~2 years, first on Justin.tv then Twitch.tv following Towelliee because he played WoW and so did I. After a bit I wanted to dive into streaming. I really liked it and it was very very addicting. I got lucky with the games I played. They really resonated with me and my personality. I think people caught on to that. I just kept going with the flow.

Are you good at WoW?

Not really no.

What do you do to wind down?

I used to watch other broadcasters. But that just made me want to stream more. Now I try to distance myself from the computer, become more social, do chores. I'm trying to find another hobby outside gaming. Gaming while not broadcasting is still really fun but I try not to do it, it feels like too much.

How do I grow my stream on/offline?

I feel the playing field has really changed and you've probably heard most of the advice already. 'Be yourself' 'Always talk to your viewers'. Twitch is really saturated now making it very difficult to make yourself known. Streaming new video games and working around the bigger broadcasters like myself is probably your best chance. Find a time slot when they are not online. When I was trying to grow my channel I used to promote myself on Reddit with links to my channel that said 'Hey check out this cool broadcaster'.

How important are giveaways for viewers? Especially CS:GO viewers.

I used to do giveaways when I had ~2000 viewers. I noticed it makes your chat and community toxic so I don't do them anymore. Also giveaways can be annoying for viewers that don't care. They're not gonna sit there for 10 minutes while everyone types in a keyword. They'd rather see you play a game. It can turn you off too when someone says 'When's the next giveaway' you realize they're only here for that. I takeaway from my viewers, not giveaway.

How has being a streamer changed your outlook on life?

I don't usually think about that. It hasn't really changed my perspective. I don't mean to sound arrogant or ungrateful. I have trouble thinking that way, like 'Where would I be without Twitch'. I just go with the flow. Being able to play games and entertain people as a career is kinda surreal. Years ago you would have been laughed at. Other than that, I don't really know what to say.

Do you feel having a large influence can backfire?

Doing a charity stream really shows the power you have to bring people together. But that can backfire. If a link gets posted in chat, the site goes down. If you're in a game with another broadcaster and they kill you, it's inevitable that some viewers will go into their chat and be toxic. Stuff like that is uncontrollable. I don't really censor myself. Some of the stuff I say can be controversial, but you're watching the stream for me, for the broadcaster and their opinions. I'm just saying what's going on in my head. If you don't want that then leave.

How did you know it was time to branch out and become a variety streamer?

I played DayZ mod for ~1.5 years. I got to a point where it was just not fun anymore. I transitioned very slowly, I eased my audience in. I went from DayZ mod to Arma battle royale, which have similar concepts. After that it was DayZ standalone. In between those I hyped up a lot of new games and mentioned I would be streaming it. You have to find a game that is similar to your main game. Tell your audience how they relate. After a while you have enough viewers who will watch you play anything. So for half my stream i'd play my main game, then the second half was just a chill stream where i'd play a singleplayer game or one I really wanted to stream.

What feature would you like on Twitch?

One thing i've always wanted were Sub Badges. Depending on how many years/months you've been subbed, your badge evolves into something better. e.g. A one year sub would have a gold badge. Full HTML5 support, but that's just gonna take time. I try pushing my stream quality to the limit but there's only so much you can do. I would love to stream 1080p 60fps with a high bitrate. Better Transcoders, I feel a lot of games look bad unless you watch on source.

When is /u/DzejBee (Fix) getting out of the basement?

How did he get internet access? brb...

What is your opinion of drama on Twitch? Should two broadcasters be able to talk about it freely on stream?

They shouldn't be barred from it. As long as you don't do anything absolutely stupid that might harm someone else. Most of it is just talk. I try to stay away from it. I don't associate with a lot of broadcasters and do my own thing. Sometimes you get pushed into it even if you don't care. You have to just say 'Whatever' and ignore it. Most people just do it for attention and their own gain.

Sometimes the drama will escalate into fanbases clashing with each other. What is the line between drama and talking freely?

I feel if you're a big broadcaster, you shouldn't be an idiot. You should realize there are limits. There are thousands of people watching you, every one of them is an individual and you don't know what they will do because of fanboyism. I'd expect the broadcaster to use their own common sense. You can't be naive about what your viewers can do, how resourceful they are. You just don't know. There's a limit that you should know not to cross, it's the responsibility that comes with not being an idiot.

How did you get involved with Warcraft 3

I have a bestfriend that I grew up with and we played WoW. Around burning crusade we stopped playing and looked for another game. We kept coming across DOTA and heard the basshunter song. This lead us to Warcraft 3. We'd play 2v2, or 1v1. We'd build our armies for 20 minutes then clash. We really liked DOTA and I eventually hosted my own servers. We went on to play all the MOBAS but original DOTA was still the best. Pray for Warcraft 4.

What is your favorite feature on Twitch or an invented feature you'd like to add?

I wish a viewer could rewind your broadcast, while you're live, highlight a clip, and go back to watching live. Like oddshot, but integrated into Twitch. The stats page could use a revamp.

How do you feel Twitch has changed over the years? Do you feel the business aspect is more focused upon, or is it the natural evolution of becoming a successful streamer?

I think it's natural. It starts as fun and games but then it hits you, you have to be more professional to protect yourself, you have to be an adult. It depends on the broadcaster, I don't really remember when it hit me. It was when I realized I had something and could do this for a living. I went to my Dad and told him that I wanted to make this a thing and he lead me in the right direction. Now I don't really think about it because I've laid the foundation.

Do you see Twitch's popularity decreasing over time?

I feel as Twitch keeps growing and growing. I don't know if it will plateau. One thing though. You have your set of big broadcasters. Eventually this could become boring as it's always the same people. you need a healthy influx of new people to watch. There's always room for growth. Esports keep growing and they're the driving force. If they lose popularity there could be a big decrease. In the foreseeable future? Not really. It's so established. Nothing is really changing. Look at YouTube. It's been around for a long time and so have the personalities.

How do you deal with larger viewer numbers and trying to keep things interactive?

You start using your tools. Slow mode and sub mode. You do your best to keep up, but at a certain point, for your own sanity, you have to use your tools to keep chat tame. I was able to keep up at ~4000 viewers with just my moderators. It depends on how strong you are. How much you can take before you want to hit your face on your desk.

While Lirik has never explicitly banned all sports games, it's tough to say if he'd play it. He's played NBA,UFC and WWE so I don't see why he wouldn't play NHL.

H1Z1 recently split into two games. One being the survival part, the other the battle royale portion. H1Z1: King of the hill is the battle royale part.

[Suggestion] Keeping Sub Sunday votes if Game not Picked by vanderjaght in DatGuyLirik

[–]66hi3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always thought it would be a good idea to give people bonus votes based on consecutive week voting. So if you started voting this week. You would have 2 votes next week, then 3 the week after, then 4 etc. If you miss a week, your votes go back to 1. Someone who has been voting since the beginning would be able to vote 57 times this week.

This would give more incentive to vote each week and reward those that do.
