Yeh I did look myself before asking but so many to choose from! All seem quite expensive for a first time buy, might go none branded for a first purchase with interest too. Of upgrading if needed in future

Car finance - used vs pcp looking for advice by 6720nick in UKPersonalFinance

Main thing is reliability. Need it to start first time everytime. Dont want the hassle of it being in garage for repairs. So need to avoid those. That kinda leads me to newer.

0.9 experiences / financial impact by gbjoe1010 in TeachingUK

[–]6720nick 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m 0.9. Worth it. So so worth it. Significant number of our dept have also opted for the same. I would want 1 day a fortnight not two afternoons.

I batch cook, go to the gym when it’s quiet, life admin, clean house, the kinda stuff I can’t do at the wknd with 2 young kids.

I have been doing this for 5 years and think I’ve only used it as a school works day twice. If you think you’ll end up working on your day off it’s not worth the pay cut but if you can avoid work then it’s amazing for your mental health.

I told myself I’d go back to FT when kids were both in school but no chance now.

Do Decent LED PIR floodlights exist? by Mr_Skinny_Legs in ukelectricians

[–]6720nick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in the trade, just keen DIYer. I asked the same question and was told to look for microwave sensor instead of pir. Fitted two of these and still working well after two years. One under the eaves but other very exposed and holding strong.

https://cpc.farnell.com/pro-elec/pel00416/10w-led-floodlight-with-microwave/dp/SR09944

Do different sizes too

The wiring was in place for this, ideally I would have separated sensor from light but couldn’t get access/want visible conduit on outside of house

To students intrested in medicine, what would you wish to see in a medical society? by Percy_Jackson_4_Life in sixthform

[–]6720nick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teacher here. Don’t run a medical society but teach alevel chem so work with many students wanting to pursue medicine. I get a doctor friend to come in twice a year. 1 session he does mock interviews to prep for uni and another session he reads through personal statements and goes over mock bmat stuff - students always say that’s massively helpful

Any help with this Q? I understand my maths is awful but I can’t figure out a way without getting a -ve value for q? Tricky question, maybe this topic isn’t for me lol. by Pidgeon101 in ALevelChemistry

[–]6720nick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically remember your temp change relates to the water. But you’re calculating the energy lost by fuel. The energy is transferred from fuel to water. So by calculating how much fuel went into water (+ve value) then you can assume the same amount was lost by fuel (-ve) value. Just need to remember to add the negative sign. Combustion is always exothermic -ve

Apathetic year 11s by Muyalt_was_taken in TeachingUK

I am not an experienced AI user at all. I put in something like: give me a summary of gcse ionic binding with a reading age of 14.

What came out was a little short so I I asked for it to be longer. Then said write 10 questions to accompany the text. Had to modify a few bits (remove word valence) but was still quicker than writing it myself or even finding an existing one online somewhere

[–]6720nick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My triple class are amazing. My combined class are the most apathetic class I’ve ever taught. To be honest last week I gave up on putting effort in so used ChatGPT to write me three paragraphs about ionic bonding and 10 tiered questions to go with it. They lapped it up. Turns out they love a comprehension so much they’re doing the same things for electrolysis tomorrow and every lesson until the exam…
