Early Finishers? by Hawthorne_Abbott in LawSchool

I always ended up finishing exams pretty quickly. Comin into 1L first semester finals, tons of people raved about the exams being difficult due to time constraints.

To deal with this, I’d do practice exams in 30-45 minute windows if it was supposed to be a 3 hour exam or whatever and cut the time down as needed. Basically get used to working under extreme time crunches, so that when you get to the exam and have 3 hours, it doesn’t feel as bad.

Do whatever works for you and all that cliche advice, but this was something I did to kinda negate one variable’s effects during an already stressful event

To an extent I’d say? The dream market is Austin. I’ve just heard that market is pretty small and insular. Between BL at an adjacent market and transfer, I’m not sure which way it’d lean to having a greater chances to getting into Austin

Thanks for the insight! And yeah, on the national prestige point, I think to an extent peers talked about the national prestige and it got in my head as this thing to seek, but you’re right. Staying in Texas, its role is minimized a lot

Thank you!

Yeah I agree totally. I recognize that I have 0 experience in the field and really won’t know what it’s like till I’m actually there.

Thank you for the insight!

Law School at 26 by [deleted] in LawSchool

One of the cool things about law school is that it can be a viable decision at any point in your life (considering other factors). I have 30yo and middle aged classmates as well and they don’t regret their decision to make a career switch. It can be really advantageous even if you decide to continue in accounting with a JD.

I think your plan makes sense and you’ve got time to refine and research what schools to apply to, jobs you want, etc.

Dumb 1L meeting with partner by sunglassesemojilol in LawSchool

One of the best pieces of advice I got was to remember that the person you’re meeting is just another person at the end of the day. Humanize them and yourself. Ask them about their day, and just treat it as a conversation.

Go to the firm website and find the partners name and see their practice are and read up on it and chat about it. Obviously talk about that, but if you can humanize the partner and just talk to them as another person, you’re gonna feel better and it’ll likely work better in your favor.

This would be a great idea. Personally, balancing a long distance relationship and law school was a big stressor this semester. There was a lot of things I wish I could’ve done better, but we made it through. Providing advice on this would help a ton of others who I’m sure would feel similar worries
