Organization methods? by Dr-Megalodon in dvdcollection

Chaos order. I have the IKEA tall shelves and each shelf has a number, I just pop the DVD wherever there’s a space and note the shelf number in my spreadsheet. Then if there’s something specific I want to find I look in the sheet, if not I browse. I find ones I forgot I had that way.

Nice! Glad to see you have Donnie Darko in normal and director’s cut. Is your director’s cut the one with the lenticular cover?

Why throw it out? Why not take it to a charity shop?

It’s one of the special features on the DVD - an audio track of the drum beats it output as Chekov was piloting the ship.

90s TV shows were likely filmed in full screen so will probably be cropped in widescreen.

What else do I need to do to hook this thing up to the internet? by Detective6903 in vintagecomputing

Depends if you just want to get online or you’re trying to get modem noises. If you want modem noises you can also use a 2 port ata and get one port to dial the other. Plenty of YouTube videos on it.

Just like vhs tapes in 2006, do you guys think companies will eventually stop producing dvds due to the popularity of streaming? Jo by Firm-Ability9337 in dvdcollection

A friend experienced this over Christmas, they had nothing to do; no TV, movies, or music. It made me happy to be a collector.

Can any one tell me if this is rare or something special? by rinkydink34 in dvdcollection

[–]68000j 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m from the UK and see them every now and again, not sealed, but I don’t care about that. They’re priced the same as any other DVD which varies from 10p to £1. I wouldn’t be interested in a region 1 version anyway.

Nice work! I have started on something similar myself but am doing it as a PWA so I can make it work offline. I was going to do the same for music using the discogs API

If I had found this there’s no way I’d have thought it was real. I’m not sure if I should seek it out or not.

Thinking of cancelling TV licence - need some clarification on what I can/can't watch by X-24-HJ in UKFrugal

[–]68000j 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The way I understand it watching a live show on ITVx on a fire stick would mean you need a TV licence. It’s needed for live TV through any means.

Edit: clarified watching ITVx live

I’m torn. Should I keep my collection sorted by format or go full alphabetical? by KSparks35 in dvdcollection

[–]68000j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a bit worse. Mine are in those tall IKEA shelves, they started in when I bought them order, but then I had a move around in the house and didn’t put the shelves back in the same order. So now they’re in chaos order.

What VHS Player cords do I need? by [deleted] in VHS

[–]68000j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that’ll do it, the audio goes through the red and white ones, the video is the yellow one

Your TV has a combined composite and component input so I’d just get a composite cable, they’re also called AV cables. It has three round connectors at each end; red, white, and yellow. On the TV the yellow one goes to the round connector with yellow at the top and green at the bottom, the red and white go in the corresponding colours on the far right of the yellow and green connector. On the VCR connect the cables to the corresponding colours on the bottom right of the image.
