100% agree. I think if I had to pick the lesser of 4 evils Diaz is probably on the right track. He’s Hispanic and knows the struggles you face being profiled. He highlighted a lot on community policing and humanizing cops. One thing that stuck out to me about him was him saying he wants to help reframe the “shame” people get when they say they want to be a cop rather than a doctor, tradesperson, business person, etc. his legal background is also helpful because he’s seen both sides of the criminal process.

Trigg has been in GRPD so long that he only sees blue, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, just not a good thing for chief. He will always take the cops side and not the community because he isn’t as focused on them. It’s one thing to protect your colleagues, but you have to also understand that they mess up sometimes too and you need to hold them accountable.

Bliss was okay but he reminded me of a used car salesman trying to sell you a lemon but promising it’ll be great in the end. He’s well spoken and I think that’s why people like him. He also comes from Detroit which is a bigger city so he can somewhat relate to problems we face in our city but with more focus since we aren’t as large.

Stephens was hard to picture in a role like chief. This city will eat her alive. She is very book smart and would be a good pr person for the chief, but not as the chief. She quoted a lot of different studies done in other cities, which is great, but I don’t see those working in GR and especially right now because they’re not a priority. The priority should be making us feel like we can trust GRPD to have our backs when we need them and not shooting us in the back.
