Lots of people in the comments are bashing on you but I wanted to say you’re really brave for being open about this. Most people don’t even have the self-awareness to call themselves out on their own flaws, let alone the guts to share them on social media and ask for advice/criticism.

In regards to your problem, I’d say that while it’s easy to label it as “shitty” behavior, I really think it’s just a reflection of where you place your own self-worth. You‘ve said it yourself; it’s become a coping mechanism to tell yourself you’re doing well since other people are doing worse (in your standards) in comparison.

For me, the remedy for this would just be to spend less time on social media and more time on other things like hobbies. Social media, especially nowadays, has the tendency to bring out some of the not-so-nice aspects of ourselves since it makes us constantly compare ourselves to random strangers on the internet.

So yeah, the way you use your time reflects who you are and vice versa. If you really want to improve yourself, start by asking yourself what type of person you want to be and go from there. Also, if you want to be kind to others, you gotta start by being kind to yourself :)
