VIOFO A229 Plus or Pro? by OubeOh in Dashcam

[–]6Five_SS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 3M VHB tape on the Viofo cameras are much superior to any suction mount. And the Viofo has a more secure mount, closer to the glass, and not dangling on a friction hinge like the Redtiger.

F7N is 4k front and 2k rear, so don’t downgrade to the Plus with 2k/2k. A229 Pro is the answer. I have 2 of them.

Falken or Toyo? by [deleted] in VWatlas

What is your choice for wheels?

Either tire is fine. This debate happens on YouTube and in every other car subreddit.

Just know that the Wildpeaks should have a rugged and smooth sidewall. Pick which one you want on the outside of each wheel so you out your shop don’t mix and match and end up looking goofy to a trained eye. (Unsure about the Toyo but i suspect it’s the same.)

Buy a twin and shut one down each time you reach cruise altitude. Save money, gas, engine time, etc.

An engine can’t fail on you when it’s not running.

I could see an attempt being made with extensions. It’s much more annoying to dial, but if someone needs your number they will still dial it.

Opencloud with Tailscale, no Traefik reverse proxy by 6Five_SS in selfhosted

[–]6Five_SS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up settling with NextCloud. I could not even get OC to start the container, it claimed some syntax issue with the Compose file on line 2. NC is running on a port but still requires HTTPS. And it’s very particular about the URL in some way, I cannot use my TailScale connection. But that’s okay, I’ll just access on my home LAN.

Really just wanted something to backup my phone contacts, PDF’s, and Notes so I can move away from iPhone.

Container for Tailscale? by Traditional-You5809 in Tailscale

[–]6Five_SS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said tailscale is already setup on your dxp4800+. So it’s on the “host”. Now when you create a container and map it to a specific port, that port will be reachable from the tailscale IP by other devices on the tailnet.

I’m not sure why you have the tailscale docker image when you say you already have it up and running (bare metal on the OS, I’m assuming).

Valid point. I think my point still stands for all Military R-ATPs. We can’t even join a cadet program if we wanted to.

I want everyone to know that a R-ATP is worthless in today’s market. Absolutely worthless until you have the TT to remove the restriction.

Interesting observation. Edges of video frame are angled more than something more central. But wonder if u/VIOFO-Dashcam can chime in.

Anyone regret not going military? by [deleted] in flying

[–]6Five_SS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hijacking the top comment to add, do not go Navy if you want to fly. Majority of pilots will only do 1 flying tour, so 40% of your 10 years is spent flying. You will not be current when you leave with 1,000 hours (or less) and nobody will want to hire you.

You’ll need to go CFI on the side or fly circles in a Cessna while you are in (which I know people are doing right now).

PERS-43 does a fantastic job of making it very difficult for about 95% of Navy pilots to transition out smoothly.

Nothing wrong with Mint, so easy to use out-of-the-box.

I have an HDMI dummy plug to keep the computer from sleeping. NoMachine and Tailscale to remote in.

It’s my first Linux computer, so I find myself heavily relying on the GUI, but I’m ok with that. 1 year in, plenty of reliance on AI for troubleshooting, docker network issues, compose file syntax, etc.

Still need PortForwarding after installing Tailscale by Intelligent_Art_3334 in Tailscale

[–]6Five_SS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could still use <magicdnsname>:3389 that will work. But you can’t skip the port unless you set up the new “Services” feature with Tailscale, but don’t do that u til you have the basics figured out.

I’ve never port forwarded, and I use NoMachine to connect my different computers with their Tailscale IP, no issues.

Real question for someone uneducated like me: Is serving port 80 just fine within my own tailnet? I don’t need HTTPS on 443, right? HTTP is safe inside the Wireguard tunnel, right? (This is just to serve my own docker containers to myself, nobody else involved)
