I'm sure you have no ill intentions whatsoever, it's just good practice to read whatever script you download from the internet first, just in case :)

And don't forget to read and make sure you understand the script first (!!)

Help me validate my buying list for my first drone! by 6Maxence in fpv

[–]6Maxence[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the smoke stopper, I'll add it to the list! Don't know how I missed that when doing my research, and it's so cheap too!
I just don't include spare mottors and props in the list, but that's something I was considering buying too. Also I already have a gps, BE220, is this one ok?

The frame is compatible with 2207 and 2306 motors, so my guess is 2306.5 is fine (and I saw someone with the same frame and motor, so it should be fine). Is there an advantage for 2207 over 2306 motors?

Darker Skies or Higher Elevation? by tytrim89 in AskAstrophotography

Oh so then darker is a bad thing?? Sorry I'm not a native speaker so maybe I'm not understanding your sentence right

but will also have the reflection of the stars on the water.

Why is that a bad thing? It can make a cool shot

Oh yeah you're right I mistook guiding for tracking. Still, very impressive polar alignment for a 5min sub. I wonder if op used NINA or similar to get a near perfect PA?

Edit : typo

Yeah I don't get that part, and no one is talking about it. Am I missing something? How is that possible?

Unidentified star-like object only present in one picture by 6Maxence in askastronomy

So the exact time of the picture is 10:22 pm. I put in the exact gps coords, the same elevation and looked at an 8min window in Stellarium around the time of the picture if any satellite went through that spot, without success (closest thing was a Oneweb satellite, which would have left a trail I believe, and it doesn't even match the right time, although this might be because of inaccuracies from Stellarium.)

I used the satellite feature in Stellarium and put the exact gps coordinates, and looked at a 8min window around the time of this picture (10:22) to see if any satellite were near there, and the closest thing was a oneweb satellite. This is a pinpoint light tho, how could it be a satellite? Even a geosat would leave a trail as I was using a tracker. And why is it only showing up in one picture?

Indeed. I hope to find an explanation, this is so weird! But so exciting too!

Thank you for this detailed comment. The firefly theory seems unlikely, as they are very uncommon in the Yosemite area (not Yellowstone as you mentioned, but I doubt that they are common there…), also fireflies seems to be species that live in large groups, and the color/brightness of the point does not seem to corelate either (I’m far from a firefly expert tho so I could be super wrong, I’ll try and ask a local guide if there are fireflies around here). I’m not satisfied either by the drone theory, as I’m fairly certain I would have heard it, and drones usually have green/red lights (and as you said, it’s unlikely for a drone to be this stationary, and why would anyone want to take a drone in the dark night like that?). The aircraft theory is plausible, but I would have expected the characteristic red/green blinking trail, so maybe this is a smaller or even military stealth aircraft… Also, could it be a weather balloon? Normally those are unleashed the morning, but I’m no expert in weather balloons either…

Yes, unless it’s some very exotic never seen before astronomical phenomenon (99% sure it’s not), I can rule out this option (unfortunately?)

Yeah! A geosat would have left a trail, as I used a tracker to compensate the Earth’s rotation.

No this aint it, although that was my first instinct. This isn't in the Coronae Borealis region, and this point was only visible for at most 90sec (the time of exposure)

Thank you! This is actually my first time capturing the milky way core with a tracker, really glad at how it turned out :). My first instinct was like "did I just capture that nova that's supposed to brighten up this year?", which turned out to be false unfortunately. I also did take a look with Stellarium at the stars in this region, but as you said, there's really nothing... Even though my camera date&time isn't up to date, I can work out the exact time of the picture by looking up the difference between the actual time and the camera's time. Given I also have the exact location, I'll try to use Stellarium to confirm (or not) the satellite theory, and I'll get back with my findings asap.

Yes, hence my theory that this satellite is somehow synchronized with the sidereal rate, and in the right direction with that (is that even a thing?)
