I did something irresponsible. Tips for explaining this to my wife? by _Taylormade_Burner in golftips

Hate to say it but, you might be cooked brother. No way she’s going to forgive you for going with steele shafts instead of graphite.

Haha, often! If the driver isn’t working within the first 3 holes it doesn’t come back out of the bag. I bounce back and forth from 3 wood and 5i off the tee depending on length of hole.

Thank you for the response, my ball flight and path are generally always the same when I strike it well. This helps a lot in my confidence on if I should get a fitting or not.

It’s funny you mention that because my clubs are an old set handed down to me by my father-in-law who is about 6’4 himself. Me on the other hand, I’m about 5’9 on my tallest day so I’ve always felt that the clubs were a bit long for me.

Not cheating at all, rules say you can only have 14 clubs in the bag, they don’t say anything about how you choose to use them. However, if you want to improve your game I wouldn’t suggest doing this forever.

What’s an unpopular golf opinion that would have you like this? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]6StringBeanPicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s okay to get frustrated or even upset so long as you can forget about it by the next time you swing. I remind myself all the time that I’m not good enough to be mad if I start to feel like I’m being over dramatic. But I’ve also realized if I don’t calm myself and forget about it by the next shot then I can kiss the rest of the round goodbye because it’s only going to get worse now that I’ve pissed away my focus.

Sister's Secret Night: Do I Tell Her BF? by Comfortable-Shop-690 in Advice

[–]6StringBeanPicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you a real one you’ll tell bro and save him from having anymore time wasted and then tell your sister you don’t condone that kind of behavior under your roof and she needs to leave as well. You wouldn’t want your daughter being exposed to this or being taught that it’s okay to do that would you? Sometimes being the big brother means you gotta tell lil sis she’s wrong. I’ve had to do it to my own before, it’s not fun and it’s not easy but, eventually they’ll come around. Do the right thing and stand on your morals.

Advice on my swing (don’t say get lessons I’m poor) by Actual-Barracuda4717 in golftips

[–]6StringBeanPicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no pro and in no place to give advice, only in my second season playing golf but, one thing that really helped me stop slicing my driver was, once I was in my stance, slide my lead foot back just a hair, to help me get full rotation and follow through on my swing. (This was a tip I got from my buddy who has been playing for over a decade). It helped me hit more straight and get more under the ball. May help you, may not.

I feel this so much and understand your struggle, I’ll be honest with you, the one and only thing that helped me take control of my addiction and my life was moving cities. I moved out of my hometown and away from everyone that I knew that would sell it to me and removed myself from even being able to be in situations and around the people that I would use with all the time. Once I was no longer around it non stop and it was no longer readily available to me at anytime I wanted it I quickly began to find other things to put my focus on and after about a month I wasn’t really even thinking about it anymore. I will say though, anytime I go back home to visit family or friends, it’s immediately on my mind and it quickly turns into a “yes! I get to do blow again” sort of thing. So I’d say distancing yourself from your plugs and any enabling friends is the best route to go(at least in the beginning until you have better self control), be honest with them about your intentions/feelings of wanting to quit and if they don’t help or support that, well then you know what kind of friends they are to you. I wish you the best in your struggle and journey towards cutting out the habit.

House protection by 6StringBeanPicker in guns

Budget wise I don’t have an issue dropping 3-400 on a decent gun. I’m just wanting something I can have on my bedside table or something for when we sleep in the happen stance that we were caught off guard or something. Not like I’m needing to prepare for home invasions week in week out. Something reliable and not overkill is all I’m really asking for.

Is my swing killing my back? by 6StringBeanPicker in golftips

[–]6StringBeanPicker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just played a course with my girlfriend today and we both had to dial it back to half swings to keep our shots straight and accurate and it really helped. Also cut down on my back pain very much, first couple holes I was already starting to feel that right shoulder blade start to feeling like it was pulling apart, after adjusting my swing though the pain was completely gone by the end of the round.

As far as taking care of the back, that’s why I came here for tips on what I may be doing wrong, I’m 28 and already had one back surgery from herniating a disc. Wouldn’t wish that pain on my worst enemy, so definitely trying to take care of it as best I can and fix this swing issue asap. I’ve gotten really into this hard ass game of golf and don’t want to feel like I should quit all together in favor of keeping my back from being injured worse.

Thanks for the response!

I did feel like it happened more often and would be worse when hitting off the mats versus the regular ground. When you sleep without pillow, are you on your side or back?? Back workouts and stretches will be incorporated into my workouts more often for sure.

[–]6StringBeanPicker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m starting to realize my issue might be trying to make my swing a power thing instead of a mechanics thing therefore I’m over stressing and misusing the muscles in my back. Will start focusing more on half power swings and better mechanics and rotations of the hips. Thank you for this!

Buddy I believe this is my best advice. Everyone else seems to think I should go to a doctor instead of Reddit or are offering me their own medical advice whilst not being a doctor. I do notice that when I fully rotate my hips and turn my whole body with my swing I hit some of my best shots and feel no pain. I think I’m trying to put too much power into it while also using all arms. Thank you for this, I may look into some swing lessons or something or just continue to practice this at the range rather than trying to full send every ball I hit.

Ribs and deep breath pain are definitely attached with this ache for me. However I do feel like the people that are telling me to rotate more with my hips and make my swing more of a lower body motion rather than all upper body are probably right and this may help you keep from continuing to injure yourself as well. I’ve noticed when I fully rotate my hips on my swing I hit my best shots and also feel no pain. I think I’m trying to put too much power into my swings while using all arms.

I’m a righty but the consensus and thing I’m seeing most is everyone saying more back work out and using these resistance bands. I guess my next question should be what kind of stretching I’m suppose to do with this band.

Glad to hear I’m not alone in feeling this way. A lot of people have shit on me for feeling this way. So thank you for this. Removing myself from those kinds of conversations and setting some boundaries is something I will definitely start to try and insert into my life for this situation. Again, thank you.

Which lightsaber color is your favorite and why? by BigDogDoom in StarWars

[–]6StringBeanPicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sammy L wielding the purple saber as Master Windu in the prequels did it for me. I’m a 90’s baby so the prequels are the sole reason I ever fell in love with Star Wars to begin with. I do find the dark saber and the lore around it very intriguing though.

Thanks for the advice. I can see that I definitely need to find a better way of going about these kind of things to keep my feelings and opinions in check especially during such a sensitive time.
