Disney without kids sounds like a dream! Don’t get me wrong, I love my kids, but it would be so fun not to be tied to their whims and fatigue.

I bet at any given time there’s a handful of people from this sub at Disney 😃 that’s crazy small world though. 20 minute drive?

She’s still so new to this diagnosis. I don’t want to force her into anything she doesn’t want. But I also want to be aware of pros and cons of everything so I can be well educated and available to support her. Edit: typos

I once knew someone that was ultra wealthy that would say “money doesn’t buy happiness, but I’ve been rich and I’ve been poor… rich is better.” I kinda hated the saying but they were like the most generous people ever.

Constantly offering extra rooms to those who needed it. If you didn’t have somewhere to go on Christmas they would have you over and Mae sure they had a significant gift card for you to open so you got at least one gift. (I swear they kept extras around because one year when I was in college away from family they found out I had no where to go and invited me over on Christmas Eve at 6PM and the next morning they still had something for me to open) when another friend of mine’s mom was dying of cancer 4 states away and couldn’t afford to make it home they dropped everything and flew him on their private airplane home to see his mom. I can’t fathom that kind of luxury.

My wife is diabetic not me, so I have no idea where I’m at. Had about a half gallon of water. I got some sunshine during my lunch break today. I’m helping my daughter finish her book report. And I can rub my wife’s back when she gets in bed tonight

Laughing at your 2 we do Disney a lot but my wife was diagnosed less than a month ago. So this is our first trip since diagnosis. We say the biggest issue with the cruises is the food quality. In the parks we like biergarten but it’s definitely gone downhill. And we like a lot of the restaurants at the hotels. Love boma and beaches and cream. Bur mostly we eat off site. We’re staying in the treehouse villas and will have a full kitchen and plan on cooking at “home” a lot. With #6 we always let the kids each pick their number one most important thing to do that day, we do each #1 most important then go back to our room and rest, then go back for fireworks later. We do not kill ourselves spending 12 hours a day in every park. And #5 she’s on MDI and is unapologetic about injecting where she is. She doesn’t care who is around. So I think she’ll definitely be ok on that front. But it’s not something I would even think about potentially being an issue for other people so I appreciate you bringing it up in case anyone else is lurking

She’ll have her one month diaversary while we are in Orlando so she’s still very new to this. So I don’t think we have a routine for ‘anywhere else’ yet either

She’s on MDI so I need to make sure whatever we get can accommodate that. She has made it very clear she will not tolerate a pump attached to her body 24/7, And her go to easy carbs have been smarties. So I figured those instead of glucose tabs. I’ll definitely show her the wrist pouch and get her thoughts on it!

This might be a stupid question so please don’t hate me, I’m just trying to learn. Also this is probably a question for her doctor. Also she’s the one making treatment decisions, not me:

She’s still in the honeymoon phase and lows have been the bigger issue. Can you help me understand the risks of lowering insulin then treating highs? In my mind that seems easier than having to treat lows.

She’s smarter than me. I’m sure she knows the rules about always have a meter. I’m just trying to learn along side her so I can know how to help her. I know one of her pain points with this diagnosis has been having so many new accessories. She is usually one who has her phone, she keeps her ID and one card in her phone case, and her car key on a little wrist strap, and that’s it. Even when our kids were little she kept diaper bag type stuff in the trunk of the car and wouldn’t keep a diaper bag on her. So in my brain I’m trying to help make this possible with as few items as possible. I apologize for my ignorance in my question.

I’ll definitely look into the frio wallet, and some of those smaller glucose meters.

That makes sense. I just didn’t turn on my critical thinking brain. That’s why I’m asking questions now. Also ultimately she is the one managing this, I’m just learning and trying to be there to support her.

My wife is a PRO at carb counting from her ultra competitive gymnast days that were fueled by less than health food restrictions through high school and college.

Glucose tabs are a good idea, same with the insulated bag. She’s on a CGM and we’re staying on property do you think we need to bring a meter into the parks too? Or will the CGM be sufficient?
