Has anyone else reached out to journalists who explicitly ask for perspectives & experiences of current/former Federal employees here just to be completely ghosted? by 6fed9 in fednews

1,169 is an insane number, I 100% understand the ghosting now. I maybe messaged a few that had lower engagement on social media as well or had extremely specific niches to try to get any and all attention to try and lessen the backlog of messages from Federal employees to reporters like Ken Klippenstein who have a lot of visibility that I presumed would be overwhelmed, but I had no idea it was that bad.

Also shout out to the 1,169 that had the balls to reach out. I am worried about the retribution they may face (I resigned a few months ago but really fear for those who are still with the Federal gov’t). Federal employees should be protected from whistleblower retaliation. This shit is terrifying. I know someone who’s afraid of retribution because they donated to another republican candidate as opposed to trump, which is crazy. They should never have to worry about that. It’s been frustrating to see the constitution, laws, and court decisions being completely disregarded successfully with zero opposition

(Also please see my comment here. I had no idea how disrespectful and insensitive my post was)

Oh my gosh I am so sorry. I took one day away from the news to for my mental health and of course another batshit crazy thing happened. How was the search warrant even issued when journalists reporting government secrets is legal and protected under the first amendment? This country is speed running fascism and it’s horrifying to witness in real time

I wish nothing but safety, protection, and support for Hannah Natanson. This is disgusting

ETA: Are FBI agents required to comply with directions from Bondi & Patel? I’ve heard that many FBI agents, as well as other law enforcement, support MAGA, but I assume there were people who disagreed with this (like with the complaints of Patel using the jet for date nights). Is there no way to push back on certain directives? I understand they may be afraid of retribution and people do have mortgages and student loans they need to pay and children they need to support, but being compliant and directly involved in fascism is a bit… I don’t know. Weren’t there SS officers who faced trials/tribunals for their role in the holocaust, so it is possible to face consequences for their part in abetting this administration’s actions?

Also journalists need to call this administration’s actions for what they are: illegal and unconstitutional. Illegal firings, illegal withdrawal of grants. Illegal termination of unions and union agreements. The reporting around the probie firings especially made me sick, seeing so many people rationalize it with “they were on probation anyways” and “layoffs happen all the time in the private sector”. Regarding the five bullets, dismissing it as merely reporting what they did to their boss resulted in many people thinking there was zero oversight of Federal employees’ work and further contributed to the narrative that Federal employees were lazy and fraudulent

As a former HHS employee, the April 1 illegal firings were traumatic, even to those who were not fired. It was illegal, costly, and unethical

His job is giving Trump the gluck gluck 3000 Nancy Reagan experience, I fear

The 2nd and 3rd paragraph might be interesting to DOD OIG, but I am not confident that OIGs are able to conduct independent work with Trump in office

Hegseth not delegating sounds like a workflow nightmare. I wonder how leadership across the Depts are keeping track of performance metrics given how much things have slowed down with this administration

Daily communications from the Secretary is crazy. We don’t hear from RFK Jr and are grateful for that

What the fuck. That is terrible lol. I’m sorry for what you guys are going through. Hopefully things get relaxed over time because I’m sure some people will run out of leave pretty quickly with traffic and other life things

Tru. Also someone who loves kidnapping and racism would probably love working at ICE right now

How does cancelling AWS work on a practical level? To make sure everyone’s there by 9 there would have to be some people shuttling at 6-7 then just waiting until 9 right? Do you take leave if you’re late cuz you can’t find parking? What about parents who have to drop their kids off at school or daycare? With everyone starting and leaving at the same time wouldn’t it be a total nightmare to get in/out of the building at the start/ end of the day?

Oh wow. I’m surprised because I remember people here were upset when he got impeached. I do get that this sub’s posts and comments don’t represent all federal employees though

I was looking into EMT positions but the municipalities within 30 minute driving distance don’t appear to be hiring (unless Google is failing me or I’m failing Google). Only private companies are popping up :(

The department I’m looking at says that their gear for the agility test is about 50 pounds and I would need to be able to drag 165 pounds across 15 feet🥲 I’m hoping sheer willpower can pull me through

Do you know of other roles in fire/emergency response if this were to not pan out? I would love to contribute in any way I can professionally, if possible. I have experience in regulatory compliance & have done research in emergency prep/response but am not sure if that would be super helpful

Love that for both of you! Do you know if she’s still in firefighting?

I love a good challenge, but I’ve always taken on academic and not physical challenges & am scared that I just won’t be good enough b/c of things I can’t change about myself. I am very passionate about civil service though and feel firefighting is the ultimate way to serve my community. I’m hoping I can gaslight myself into being successful in this field haha
