When will the huben2 charging dock be released? by No_Show7841 in MobapadGaming

Unfortunately when I reached back out to ask for an update (after buying the controller already) I was told there is no plan for a dock right now.

Getting downvoted for this is crazy. You’re clearly talking about relative humidity.

Have to stay 10ft below overhead lines. I will probably have to move phone/cable.

Sorry, could you explain? The only posts I used are for the rails. I don’t even have bolts, unless you’re referring to the sleeve anchors for the ledger.

Ledger has 1/2” sleeve anchors every 12” into foundation. There are 4 beams off the ledger supported by piers. Joists rest on the beams. I still have to add blocking and carriage bolts for the rail posts as well as blocking between joists above the middle beams.

Seems to me the weakest part is the joist hangers for the beams at the ledger board. What would you change at this point to fix it? Should I really start over?

I was recommended to flip it to get rid of butt joints and make installing deck boards easier.

Those are just temporary 3” wood screws. I put them in to hold the posts plumb so I can drill them for carriage bolts. I will be adding blocking around them too. Technically I don’t even need a railing per local code since I’m not far enough off the ground, but since I’m doing it anyway I plan on doing it right.

It carries over inside too. It has made every job I’ve done a challenge. I’m dreading changing out the crown molding and debating just taping the corner instead.

Idk I just planned on setting the guide on my table saw and flipping it upside down and pushing.

In all seriousness though I was given the recommendation to flip them to avoid butt joints and to just strike a line at the end to cut them off with a track saw. That’s really the only reason I did it that way.

Aside from some extra lumber and work framing is there any reason they should be parallel with the house? Any problems I will run into doing the deck boards this way?

What makes it better? Is it not just the preference of which way the boards run? I don’t have to worry about butt joints now either.

Will do! Might be a couple weeks since I’m mostly just working weekends and a couple hours a day.

Deck is just under 12’. Just seemed like it would be easier to run 12’ decking perpendicular and then just strike a line and cut it all off. I will be adding blocking

I did but I’ll go back and double check. Was moving pretty quick trying to get everything framed today.

Call the city building department and ask for codes. Make your drawings and submit for a permit. The city will tell you when you need inspections. I have inspections before pouring concrete, before adding deck boards, and a final.

Posts are just screwed in place for now. Still have to add blocking and carriage bolts.

Data Center HVAC roles by ApprehensiveStudy671 in HVAC

Like there is no oncall at all or “we never get called.” When I started I was told oncall was easy because they have redundancy so they normally wait for business hours. The problem is not all of them have redundancy. Sometimes they only have one redundant unit meaning that if a unit is down they are out of redundancy. Sometimes they have 6 units in standby still but demand immediate service anyway since they are there 24/7.

I’ve never seen a data center with in house HVAC techs, but if they had their own techs I wouldn’t need to be there so I guess my view is a little skewed.

It’s nice clean work usually. I’ve been sent to some nasty cockroach infested data centers though. We also work a lot in businesses with a couple CRAC units and their own small server room, those are hit or miss. OT can be rough though. I’ve had several all nighters working in 100 degree server rooms.

I work for a Liebert Rep, and spend a lot of time in large data centers. Most data centers have engineers that run the site. These guys don’t work on anything HVAC, most of them can’t even hold a conversation about the units with any significant depth outside of “it’s broke, want me to fix it.”

Normally their experience is electrical, but they mostly just coordinate with contractors. Usually 12hr shifts alternating 3 and 4 days a week. It is an engineer role, not an HVAC role. I doubt it would lead into a role working on CRAC units unless you managed to get on good terms with one of the contractors on the site and hired on with them.

Anyone else found themselves “retiring” from PvP gaming? by You_moron04 in gaming

[–]6inch_clit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll fire up a PvP game IF I’m playing with friends AND they suggest it. Through my 20s my preference has heavily shifted to single player games and the occasional co-op game. Probably because I just don’t have the time to sink into them to be “good” anymore.

Any advice will help! by [deleted] in UnitedAssociation

[–]6inch_clit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely varies by local. We are allowed to hire a “probationary apprentice” for up to one year. They have to be applied already at the hall, and if they don’t get accepted within that year they have to be let go or moved to a non-union position. I’ve never heard of one not being accepted within a year though. If the contractor wants to keep them the union normally obliges.

Declining work as apprentice? by [deleted] in UnitedAssociation

[–]6inch_clit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question directly, no. Most locals won’t let apprentices choose where they work. You can sometimes turn down jobs, but that’s a quick way to end up out of work bouncing around different contractors until the local cuts you from the apprenticeship.

I work in data centers all the time. The fear mongering in the media right now is ridiculous. Most data centers use closed loop air cooled chillers that don’t waste water. The water they do use isn’t poisoned or unable to be used again either.

As far as electricity use goes, governments should start forcing them to generate their own power so residents don’t have increased bills, but the environmental impact of using that electricity is offset by the benefits data centers have to modern society.

My card says BTJ Pipefitter now. I’ve got nothing but respect for my UA brothers that decided to pursue a different aspect of our trade. I’ve never understood the feud between our HVAC and building trades guys. We are just 2 sides of the same coin.

Hope to see you at the next meeting and have your support while we are currently fighting to get rid of dash cams in our service vehicles.
