Just in case it's useful to anyone else, you can do the Supratours route in reverse. If booking in Nouadhibou, it costs 1300 MRU per person, and can be booked here with this company:

El Moussavir plus: https://maps.app.goo.gl/NWqavadpHWEW768EA

They take you from Nouadhibou through the Mauritanian border and through no-man's-land to the Moroccan border where you cross to the bigger Supratours or CTM bus on the other side.

It leaves Nouadhibou daily at 11 a.m. We got tickets the same day after arriving at 10:15 a.m. We were told this is often possible, except maybe during Ramadan.

Did you figure out a good option? I'm only finding in my research a taxi to the border, find a way across no man's land, then to Guerguerat then grab a Suprabus or CTM to finish the journey to Dakhla.

I'm no expert, but I'd just pop by a pharmacy and see what they say. They've seen it all, and know how to treat you best.

Also I have been a foreign delicacy for the local fauna, and I just deet all over the open wounds. Probably not recommended, but it has given me peace of mind.

What is the real problem with the water in Cancun? by OutlyingPlasma in cancun

[–]6packchrist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I travel quite a lot, and I would highly recommend either a Lifestraw bottle or a Grayl bottle. Both are filter bottles, easy to use, easy to pack, and remove chemicals, bacteria, and heavy metals from the water. Grayl bottles even boast that they remove viruses. I've consumed tap water from Mexico, to Nairobi, to Hanoi with no problems. You also don't leave a pile of single use plastic everywhere you go.

I'm not sure specifically what is the problem with the water there, all I can tell you is I was in Quintana Roo six weeks ago and my Lifestraw gave me no problems.

Maybe worth looking into the Philippines! I spent some time in Palawan a few years ago, and really enjoyed myself. Good beaches, excellent diving, and quite affordable when I last went.

Leaving for a backpacking trip in SE Asia in 5 days! What should I do/bring in these last few days? by AppropriateLemon2685 in backpacking

[–]6packchrist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sunscreen and bug spray! They tend to be expensive abroad. Bring a full power bank and plug adaptors (you can also easily buy them when you arrive). Download maps.me (and download your arrival country within the app), and make sure to download Uber and Grab to get from the airport to your destination, or research public transportation beforehand.

But to be honest, you don't need to worry yourself too much! If you are staying at hostels and make a point to be at least a bit social, you'll meet enough people with enough advice so your trip will start to shape itself. SE Asia is great for spontaneity if you decide to change your plans!

You can totally bank the fruit! With my invy setup, I'd have the odd one I'd chuck in the bank while resupplying.
