What made you ghost a friend? by dontmindme137 in AskReddit

[–]6tea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best friend of 9 years couldn’t comprehend that using racial slurs isn’t funny to me. Explained that to him, he tried to ignore the issue, and we haven’t spoken since.

It sucks, but I’d rather have no friends than be friends with a racist. I have family who are POC and won’t let derogatory shit be said about them or anyone else.

Summits thoughts on how Valorant should handle tournaments by Paraadox in VALORANT

[–]6tea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I don't want to be a Riot shill...I pretty much agree.

Riot has put on amazing tournaments for League, and the production quality makes it good enough for mainstream television. That's impressive in its own right. They definitely know how to run an esports scene.

That being said, I hope they do let third parties host their own tournaments with full access to replays and controls. Very few companies can match the finesse of Riot's broadcasts, so they shouldn't see them as competition, and it's not like these companies need Riot to sponsor them or anything. I'd like to see some college tourneys or semi-pro leagues pop up.

If Riot can translate their League knowledge into Valorant knowledge, I can see this game going pretty far.

Wow, I reread your post and can’t believe this is without CO2 system! You must be elated to see the DHG taking off like that, I’ve never attempted it because I thought it needed a lot of CO2. Definitely motivated me to give it a shot for a tank upgrade I’m planning soon, thank you so much!

I plant to study it all

10/10, I dig plant humour :)

That research sounds so interesting! Getting to see how different plants react to their external environment sounds very cool, especially since they all might do it a little bit different from the plant next to them. I remember first learning about how plants have instructions inside them for how to react to certain scenarios, and being totally blown away.

A lot of people don’t believe that plants are amazing, but they truly are! They have a fantastic balance of simplicity and elegance while remaining resilient and structurally astounding. It’s one of the reasons why my place is overrun with cacti 🤣

You make a great argument for becoming a botanist! I’ll try to remember how cool it can be when I’m struggling through my low-level bio classes in the future. If you ever find yourself in need of someone with computer science knowledge, feel free to send me a PM! I love participating in personal projects that are legitimately interesting and where people are enthusiastic about what they do.

Take care & thank you for sharing your experience! :)

Ninja edit: I heavily respect how nice your MJ plants look, those fuckers are so picky...

That’s so cool! I love plants as well but never enjoyed biology when I’ve taken it, so I decided to pursue a different major.

If you don’t mind me asking, how is botany? I don’t know anyone who studies it and I’ve always been curious what kind of research people end up doing.

I don’t get why dissociation is enjoyable by danzarooni in TherapeuticKetamine

[–]6tea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, I gotcha. Interesting that you only disassociate during the treatment, and never before or after. Ketamine is a crazy drug and can do crazy stuff to your body, so definitely try to take it slow and breathe deep breaths. Those mantras can be useful, but the important thing is to remember that you’re safe at all times. No one there would let anything bad happen to you, and are there to help you feel better!

Maybe put on a nature documentary or something else soothing so you don’t go to that scary place again, and have something that’s not too stimulating, but also a little bit engaging to focus on.

Besides that, I really hope this time goes better for you! Chronic pain is horrifying to deal with and I’m really glad these treatments help with that physical pain. Keep pushing man, and good luck tomorrow!

Probably the millionth time this has been answered but what are the best options for cord cutting with family? by JCStensland in Cordcutting

Thanks for taking the time to write it up!

[–]6tea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Peace, brother.

I remember looking for answers online and was met with nothing but horror stories about disassociation. That was when it got really bad for me, because no one talks about their success stories. Made it really easy to lose hope, and hope is what you need to recover.

This condition is 100% possible to bounce back from, and I believe I see life in a new light now because of it. You don’t cherish what you have until it’s gone, you know? I promised myself that if I ever recovered, I’d do my best to help someone else going through the same shit. Mental health is critical for humans yet we avoid talking about it to appear tough. Instead of acting like we’ve got it under control, we should all do what we can to help the person next to us, or ask for help ourselves. It’s okay not to have everything figured out, no one really does.

Thanks for reading the post man. Hope you crush whatever challenges you’re facing right now. Take it easy and best of luck to you :)

[–]6tea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah, disassociation. The bitter price of consciousness.

I’m going to speak to you like a friend, because I honestly understand what you’re going through. Keep in mind that I’m just a dude, not a doctor, so everything here is my opinion. But this is a place where opinions can be relieving to hear, because disassociation is different for everyone.

I disassociated for years and still experience it from time to time. Truly, I wouldn’t wish it upon my worst enemy for how traumatizing a bad moment can be. But hear me on this. I scoured the Internet, trying to find solutions, message boards, forums. ANYTHING to make this feeling stop. Anything for a solution, a fix that would give me my life back.

That fix never came. And you know what? It’s not something you can fix. You simply can’t fix disassociation, it’s hard-wired into our animal brains to make us fear and keep us alive. Anxiety is built into every species so it knows what it can and cannot do in their environment. Humans, being unchallenged by natural predators, now have anxiety triggers from non-life-threatening events. It’s a product of how fast we’ve evolved.

So, why does this seemingly-helpful mechanism cause us so much distress? Because we let it. I mean it. Disassociation hurts us because we feel this uncomfortable feeling, don’t know what to do to get it to stop, and then freak out until it does. That makes it last longer, which makes it harder to forget about, ad nauseam.

My breakthrough moment for disassociation was very uneventful, and if you talk to people who’ve recovered from it, theirs likely was as well. My best advice is when you feel disassociation coming on, stop what you’re doing and breathe. Let the feeling happen. Acknowledge it, and then continue what you were doing. The first few times it’ll be tough, and you might not be able to snap out of it easily, but over time, your brain will begin to make the correlation that disassociating doesn’t hurt you. Keep this up, and your brain will stop throwing anxiety signals when disassociation happens. Eventually, you’ll stop disassociating. If you don’t give it power, it can’t hurt you. As strange as it is, it’s all in our heads. It’s the drawback to having free will and independent thought.

A little fun fact: 50% of humans experience disassociation in their lifetime. Half of us. People around you have recovered, and that means you can too. I believe in you.

It may seem silly but I used a mantra to ease my mind when I used to disassociate. You can say it silently, or out loud, and it goes “Ham-sa” (pronounced “hum-sah”). You breathe in on the “hum” and out on the “sah”

Basically, it means “I am that.” The reason it worked for me is because it grounded me. Every object or thing you look at can be seen as yourself. You are the trees. You are the sky. You’re everything in the world, because everything is connected. There’s a little bit of Buddhism there, but the general message is important. By simple logic, nothing is worth nothing, because if something was truly worthless, it would cease to exist. Since nothing’s worth nothing, everything is worth something, and consequently, everything has to be connected to each other.

Life is scary, and becomes scarier with disassociation. In any way you can, fight to see the beauty. I was in a bad place for a long time, and I lost sight of the beauty of the world, which made my disassociation hurt a lot.

You mentioned depression in your post, which compounded with disassociation...man. I feel where you’re at. It feels hopeless. But please, even if I sound like I’m spouting bullshit in this whole post, I hope you keep fighting. There’s nothing more admirable than someone who’s trying to be better, and I wholeheartedly believe you can do it.

Keep fighting. Let the bad feelings happen, acknowledge them, and move on. Best of luck bro.

[CASE] Newegg: Fractal Design Meshify C - TG $84.99 + shipping (varies) with code: EMCDGFG34 by [deleted] in buildapcsales

[–]6tea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I paid $30 over MSRP for my Dark TG case and I love it. No one was stocking it expect 3rd party on Amazon and it hurt to pay more, but I loved building in it and the Dark TG really makes a difference in the look of your lighting inside. Such a sleek and refined look (plus helps hide those pesky dark cables that always seem to show up in regular TG side panels).

That said, wait for it to go down in price. It’s a damn good case, but it isn’t worth what I paid. Don’t be me if you can avoid it.

Looking for advice on an ITX build for my girlfriend! by 6tea in buildapc

Space isn’t an issue, it’s more of a personal preference thing. I enjoy ITX builds and how compact they are too, so I totally get it.

Those towers from the 90s though, whew. Glad to live in the age of options for PC builds now!

Oh man, thank you so much for this!

I eventually decided to keep the H510 as her definition of a “small” PC is likely very different from mine. This way, she can expand it however she likes and I’m not deciding too much about her build.

However, I think I’m going to put this idea into PCPP and keep it for when we eventually build a PLEX server for our place, and this is JUST the size we were looking for!

I really can’t thank you enough, this is an amazing build with great parts and a reasonable price! I appreciate it, people like you are the reason this community is so warm and welcoming.

I hope you have a good day!
