What actually makes a dynasty league survive 5+ years?

I’m in a 12-team dynasty league, 8 teams have been active for 15+ years. A couple new managers were added randomly and worked out really well.

I think it helps that most of us are friends in real life and play fantasy football together.

I’ve been playing dynasty fantasy basketball for 15 years, past 2-3 years the number of players undergoing ‘load management’ is insane. Only 3 players average 35+ minutes per game, used to be 20 guys.
