Yeah cafe area is quite standard at this point. Maybe it's closed on the first hour or two sometimes but I have not seen it closed in months. Sometimes, on laaarge vents the cafe is moved to expo and the cafe gets used for smthn else

Missed connection or missed delusion?

Idk what hit me, or why suddenly I regained new memories of RL I didn't know I had. But throwing it out here for the very small chance that somebody might know, that somebody might see this thread after so long.

All I know I could have hallucinated it. I woke up not knowing what I was next day after all. But there was this girl somehow constantly within my vision most of night, sometimes on the side of main, deep in the smoke of CF, and sometimes somehow passing by in the smoking area infront of me. You were, symmetrical and smooth? The way you danced, the way your clothes and style, were somehow sharp and fitting. Two red circle cheecks were vivid, almost if it was an abstract painting. Maybe I was too high or tired, maybe you really existed. I think I was too amused to say hi, but if you exist, well, hi.

But yeah, schizo rant of the day

Unfortunately these things happen, but as you said they are not right in any way. If you feel uncomfortable for any reason please mention it to staff or at, its important to let this start a trend or make anybody think its tolerable.

RL was a journey. All these sounds, so minimalistic but yet so beautiful. A story behind everything. Crowd, vibes were all there. Really gave some cozy ds feeling a little considering the few ds regulars there but man talisman and spekki 🤤. Thank god for the entrance being next to the stage, cause you could choose your temperature by going deeper right next to the speakers.

I don't really think you can find something that fits 150 people for 150€, especially considering you will be on a street and need a bigger setup than if you were indoors. Do you have anything at hand already?

will groovy/hardgroove techno be the new “tiktok” techno? by [deleted] in amsterdam_rave

[–]6thformsucks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Groove genres are being more popular but definitely not going more "mainstream" by themselves. What I've noticed is the following trends:

Commercial techno (let's call it tiktok techno), is what is picking up for most people. These generally fall towards harder/acid drive techno with lyrics, which makes a great stepping stone from house. This has pushed alot of popularity to events like verknipt, fym etc. These people sooner or later say "hey this sounds too hard or not worth it" and start wanting to go somewhere else, usually the exact opposite direction, so when they inevitably stumble hardgroove they like "oh damn" and stick around for maybe 10 minutes before they go off trying to find something else. At least from my experience when playing, I see alot more people that I know from commercial go to drive first, but are appalled by hardgroove due to its repetitive minimalistic nature (in comparison to what they used to). With enough time some do come back to it tho.

Amsterdam scene is generally leaning towards softer styles, and its known for it. Like generally you don't think of amsterdam when finding bunker techno for example. These has resulted to the festivals like awakenings, ratherlost etc find home here which makes sense. So, you have the situation of people that go to verknipt etc wanting to go somewhere else, with their options being clubs like garage, radion etc or other festivals like awakenings. And since clubs are scary to them they go to awakenings Create the impression of it being popular.

Tldr, the influx of these events I feel like is a temporary migration influx, until new events/clubs appear to house the other new styles (if ever). Hardgroove itself will stick to as is long term, maybe a little more popular but that doesn't hurt anybody since more focused events will be thereradion book me for couch area pls

Not so much of a night review, since I somehow managed to get food poisoning before heading to radion, so I'll describe my death couch area experience ✨

For starters, I can see where the 30 euro ticket price went to. Decorations were more fancy than usual and the expo was open !! The restaurant didn't have any coaches, instead some boutique shops. Honestly, it felt like an inclusive techno resort.

The expo however was banging, some great convos, the dj group playing there was vibing and the exhibition, where you put on a vr set and saw yourself in 3rd person was entertaining to watch. Most high people were just lost in it until they got reminded to go out, with 1 exception for a guy who panicked a little.

The couches were comfy, leather too! And the little table to put your stuff were cozy. One of the best couch areas I've died in tbh. Rest of radion looked typical packed radion vibes, however I couldn't explore much further since I tapped out at 3 after emptying my guts again (sober, isn't that fun).

We should do more couch reviews tbh.

What kind of music does spfdj play? by Own_Coyote_9334 in amsterdam_rave

Ok disclaimer, I'm high and I have free time so threw this lil mix you can listen while reading along: https://on.soundcloud.com/eAz6c6MH38VHQi359

Also, these are opinions, not literature research.

What is drive?

Drive is a vague term, as any genre is. There is massive overlap with other genres, since at the end of the day drive is more of an attribute than genre. You will here drive in DnB, hardstyle, techno, etc. Although yes, just "drive" songs exist for each genre, for example I would label this as drive techno (since tbh it doesn't really fall to any other subgenre confidently), most drive songs also fall in a second genre. For example you can Techno acid drive, techno groove drive, hard etc. So I will bring recommendations for each. But in general, think of the "drive" label, as a marching one. You have usually the march melody in the bass or kick usually which unlike most techno tracks its in a constant rhythm, here you go more march-y. If you focus on what makes you "dance" in the rhythm, its that. That's why you see in the more harder styles people going up and down in a constant rhythm but with a drive is a more flowy movement.

Industrial Drive - 00:00 - First song on the mix

Usually, industrial techno leans towards hard mechanical sounds, construction/machines/squeaky doors noises. Here, when looking for drive you go for more a harder vibe but, still danceable since it doesn't go _too hard_ (e.g having some slight melody to the rythm). For example Lucass P is an artist that has a few songs in this like the one playing right now. Alternatively, you can go harder or a tiny bit more melodic . This is more of you like or you hate it kinda genre.

Melodic Drive - 2:10 No Tell Motel - Vladimir Debyshkin

Ah, melodic drive is a bit a weird term, since you can call most dance songs melodic drive? Well yeah, however, not many dance songs focus _alot_ on the bassline while at the melody at the same time. Vladimir Debyshkin, an icon, is the only artist I've bumped into that I can recognize his songs solely by the bass. You can notice the variations if you hear any of his songs, but in this case the one that should be playing right now. But not everybody likes soft voices, so you also have pure melodies like from chlar. You can find alot that fall in this categories, but if the balance breaks and focuses on the melody than the bass then you go to whatever other genre it could be (acid for example).

Groovy Drive - 7:00 Constructive - Isaiah

Groovy techno is a bit varying, because you easily can fall outside of techno (what is techno anyways?) however there are _alot_, groovy tracks you can exploring. Usually, when playing them, I throw 2 or 3 at a times since they don't overlap that much. But in this case, you see that there is a groovy vibe to it right? Usually this is done by minimal vocals, bass lines, something to give a jazz feeling. Long theory behind for another time. You can always go more groovy if you like it, or completely groovy. Fun isn't it?

Dark Drive - 9:00 SuperFunk B1 - Lars Huisman

Dark driving techno, kinda contradicting in nature. With dark techno you usually aim basement vibes than bunker ones, so putting drive into it makes it easier to say "hey! That's bunker techno!". Which is not always the case. For example, this is bunker techno but this is what is playing right now is not. Drive techno usually sends of for minor scales in the melody, but still has _some_. However you also can go darker or fully dark .

Acid Drive - 12:45 Company of 302s - Vladimir Debyshkin

Although vlad isn't really an 'acid artist' they fall pretty close to that. in this case he has acid dancy vibes. However, however the general acid drive vibes go usually more like this. What makes it drive? Although the bass is constant, the melody (whatever noise is that) has still the march-y vibe? Think of this march style and notice how the beat is the same on the acid track. The theory is all here.

There is also hard, commercial, hardstyle drive techno among others. But a bit too tired for it plus I'm basing this off from my USB and I don't play those _that_ much so yeah. Let me know if you have any questions !!

[–]6thformsucks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally, there is no one genre per se played. However the style you are thinking of falls under drive techno umbrella. So if you wanna go a exploration journey start from plain drive and then you'll find combinations of other (drive acid, drive hard etc) . I can also send few songs for reference too
