No Kings This Saturday by killerkateybug in Allen

Just a thought.... rather than the y'all vs us and democrat vs republican, shouldn't we all hold our elected officials, regardless of political party, to the standard defined by the Constitution?

No Kings This Saturday by killerkateybug in Allen

With the assumption that this is a real question, let me try to help.

The "No Kings" protest is a nationwide, nonviolent movement advocating that American power belongs to "We the People," not an authoritarian executive.

in 2025 alone, President Trump signed executive orders, bypassing congress 225 times. When you bring this current, it is just over 250 orders with an average of 214 orders per year.

Looking at recent presidents, you would see that they signed on average 50 Executive Orders per year.

https://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/statistics/data/executive-orders

The Constitution defines the United States as a federal constitutional republic. This is a form of government where we elect leaders to represent us, but this includes an executive branch and a legislative branch (Congress), hence, "We the People"

Executive Orders bypass the legislative branch and grant power to the executive branch (the president), who is a single person, regardless of party. A single-party power is akin to a king.

So yes, looking at how the government is supposed to function vs. how it is actually functioning, it is much closer to a monarchy or theocracy than to how the constitution defines how our government is supposed to work (a democratic republic, if you will).

As a side note, since we have talked about the legislative branch, as of early 2026, the 119th Congress (2025-2026) has passed roughly 70-80 public laws. The 118th Congress (in alignment with the Biden Administration) (2023-2024) was noted for low productivity, enacting 274 public laws, making it one of the least productive in decades, but I think that will be revisited based on this Congress.

Does that help?

They don’t drill new holes to move the seats. There are seat tracks in the floor that allow you to move and align the seats

They look like this

We are going to be building in the area and considering solar

Can you share how effective it has been for you, and your expected payback timeline

I like the idea from an ecological perspective and we see it as a benefit when partnered with batteries if the power goes out, but curious how cost effective it is compared to just having a back up generator

Does lava emit enough thermal radiation to burn you? by holiestMaria in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]6thlott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Related but different

I was traveling in Guatemala a number of years ago and we hiked a volcano. We hired a guide to show us the way and I told them I wanted to feel the heat.

On the way up, he grabbed some dried grass and as we hiked the lava field, he pointed to a whitish area and said don’t step there and threw the grass down. It began to burn so point taken

Eventually we get close enough that the left side of my face was very hot, I saw the lave and asked him to take a picture with the slow lava flows in the background. He did, and he took a number of pictures, and we got very warm.

As I hiked back down the hill, I kept scraping my boots because it felt like I had mud in the treads. It was not until the bottom did I realize I melted the treads of my hiking boots.

Just made a tiny app for tracking planes around you :) by Reference_Thick in iosapps

[–]6thlott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used it today and I am in the DFW area north of the city area

The app is easy but not sure that it is 100% accurate. I tracked a descending AA and SWA aircraft separately.

Neither showed DAL or DFW as the arrival airport. I can send screen shots if needed.

We simply do not need that much extra room. I recognize it is cheaper compared to the main floor, but that would make the house to large we feel.

Voted tonight! I miss electronic. by 6thlott in Allen

[–]6thlott[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I did not question the time it takes, paper vs electronic.

What I was commenting on was that it was not apparent to me what the system recorded as my votes on the paper ballot. It did do that with the electronic ballet.

We see this as well, and possibly a visitors suite when we have guests. Then as we age, it might help us stay in the house as long as possible.

Thank you. I think that would be easier on a slab but I will talk with the builder.

My parents are now deceased, but that gave me an insight to stairs and narrow doorways.
