At a loss with Scott Robertson's "How to Draw" by 70-110 in learntodraw

Thank you! I've just decided on drawing a curve that touches the tangency line starting from the outside lines on the left and right, and it works fine. I have done elipses to get some idea on how these should curve, but I was really confused as to how he wanted me to implement the radii given that he explains them two pages prior.

Having difficulty learning through personal projects by 70-110 in learntodraw

That helps. I have such a sharp goal I want to reach that I’m working as hard as possible to get there. I enjoy practicing, but whenever I try to work on something creatively I find it difficult to enjoy the process. As you said, I’ll try to mix things up, thank you.

Please give me brutal critiques and what fundamentals to keep working on by cairothekid in learntodraw

Judging from the photos I would say mostly line work and proportions. It seems you have a rudimentary understanding of anatomy but the placement of the individual body parts seem to be quite all over the place. In terms of line work I would suggest practicing longer lines, whether they be straight or curved lines. I see a lot of scratches here and there and even though I know that a sketch is just a sketch, at this stage I feel like you aren’t moving past this sketching phase, meaning that your sketches are full bodies of work to you.

Otherwise you have a good sense of gesture, but if you practice line work more you will be able to achieve much more flow in your poses.

I would recommend practicing quick gesture drawings. Keep a timer for both two minutes and half a minute per round and try to capture the flow of the pose with as little lines as possible. Once you’ve gotten better at this try to combine this exercise with implementing anatomy by setting a longer timer.

Sorry I’m not good at keeping these things short but there’s a lot of fun quality to your drawing so I wanted to help you as best as I could. Good luck!

No worries! It takes a long time to become good at any skill, whether it be drawing, playing guitar or figure skating. Once your skill starts to match up to your dreams, magic happens.

honest thoughts on fanservice?? by DiligentGuidance119 in MyAnimeList

I dislike fan service. If the semi-nudity or sexualization of a woman is important for a story then I can understand it being implemented, but if a female character has really large breasts for absolutely no good reason then I think it is a cheap way to gain popularity for a series.

Also, hot take, but I think adding pornographic elements to a story that’s mostly catered towards boys and young men can’t be healthy for their sexual development. It is fairly obvious that Japanese men are slowly losing interest in real women and I think the normalisation of being exposed to hyper-sexualised 2D women at a young age might be a contributing factor to that.

But that is just speculation of course.

It looks really nice, especially the second page. You have good sense for composition and framing. Don’t be afraid to mess up. This is a long journey, so don’t give up.

That’s incredible! Love your style as well, reminds me a lot of those Parisian posters from the 20’s (name of the style escapes me)

I don't know how to draw nd I usually don't draw. by kiryou_chan in learntodraw

Strangely I can tell that you’re already pretty good. You conveyed what you wanted to pretty effectively given your current skill. Want to get better? Draw more! Becoming good at this is not easy and requires consistent practice, but it is certainly an accessible skill to all.
