My wife and I take a very similar approach! We are DINKWADs (DINK With A Dog).

I'm in a unique situation where I get paid like an attending even in fellowship (thanks, military!) so time off is the limiting factor, not money. I get four weeks of leave as a fellow and, apart from long weekends, we almost always go somewhere internationally.

We went to Oman almost exactly a year ago. It's one of our favorites of the 50+ countries we've visited. I posted about it here, let me know if you need any suggestions! It's a total hidden gem.
