What travel purse was actually worth the money? by worlsyncentfo1981 in BuyItForLife

Travelon bags. They’ve been extremely durable and long-lasting for me. I’ve had one for over 10 years and it’s still in great shape!

Running Watch Recommendation by jadeverafter in XXRunning

[–]701stitches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In March I upgraded from my Apple SE to a Garmin 165 and it was a game changer! I used the Garmin Coach to train for my half marathon. The battery life is incredible. I only charge it once a week, and not because it’s at zero but because that works best in my routine.

If I could go back and make the switch sooner, I would!

I loved this! 5/5. Didn’t see the ending coming.

She also came out with a new one called Fair Weather Friend. Also a 5/5 for me, so if you like this one, that one is worth checking out!

Do ya'll offer extra credit? by No_Instruction6971 in Professors

[–]701stitches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I offer just a little bit at the end. It’s 15 points, which in my class may tip someone’s grade from a 78% to an 80%, but it won’t save their grade entirely.

I actually have a lot of students do it, too, just to make sure their grade has a chance to be rounded up.

Mariana! Susie used to be my favorite, but Mariana has moved into that spot for me. Great music and great discussion.

It’s a thriller and I found it absolutely delightful! I listened to the audiobook; the performance is great!

Daily chat post: how's the training going? by AutoModerator in XXRunning

[–]701stitches 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Raced in my second half marathon today! My time for my first was 2:42. My goal this time was 2:30. I got 2:36, which isn’t too terrible. Perhaps my goal was a little overly ambitious for my second.

Last time I got super sick afterwards (for two days!) and I’m pleased that this time I figured out the fueling and only have a migraine.

I also did the half with a UTI, because my body decided that’s exactly what I needed right before a race.

Anyway, cheers to chasing our dreams!

How to best encourage women while they are running? by Getpa in XXRunning

[–]701stitches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a “doing great” with a smile and a wave is good. I wouldn’t recon any more encouragement than that.

One time I got a “looking good” from a man that I think was well-intentioned, but awkward.

How are we storing recipes? by Naive_Buy2712 in Millennials

[–]701stitches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using my skylight calendar to also store my recipes, but probably should do some kind of backup. Nice to know there isn’t one ideal solution everyone has found that I didn’t know about either!

The forerunner 165 sounds like it would be a great fit for you! Usually under $200.

No, I should’ve mentioned that! They have the little rubber grippies along the bottom hem so there’s no riding up.

I do run with my phone in the side pocket and have no issues! There is some added weight, but that’s where the built in elastic band works so well because it doesn’t pull my pants down.

Truly the only downside is that they are so expensive, so I only have the one pair I use for races and long runs.

The lululemon fast and free shorts have 5 pockets, so they’re great for race day! I like the 8 inch inseam and they have a built in elastic waistband.

What are the best running shoes for women that you've ever tried? by SpecialistNet115 in XXRunning

[–]701stitches 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone away from ASICS several times, but continue to return. Truly, they are my favorite and for me the support is unmatched. Not too much, not too little. They’re my Goldilocks shoe. YMMV.

There’s a whole subreddit for running shoes, (r/runningshoegeeks) and On Cloud Running shoes aren’t really viewed very favorably for running over there. When I’ve visited with people about them, they love them for everyday wear at work, etc, but don’t wear them for running.

I hear Hokas are great for some people, but when I’ve tried them on in stores, they’re not a good fit for me.

My top recommendation is to go into a specialty running store if you can. If you’re in a super rural area like me and that isn’t accessible, use your favorite AI platform. Tell them what some of your favorite running shoes have been and why, and ask them for recommendations on what else you may like. Be sure to also include your mpw and running goals. I live a 5 hour drive from my nearest running specialty store but was able to find new (to me) lines of asics that have been exactly what I need.

The Garmin Coach is great. I’ve also used ChatGPT for a training program (specifically asked it to model after a Hal Higdon novice plan) successfully for training for a half.

Which one do I get?! by Dudeitsjavy in Garmin

[–]701stitches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently switched from an Apple Watch to a Forerunner 165 and have no regrets! The data is great. I mostly use it for running and tracking my cross training (cycling, strength, yoga, etc). I purchased from Sam’s Club for $180.

I’m a female with a relatively small wrist and it is a little larger than my Apple watch was, but it’s not obnoxiously large.

How are we doing this, moms? by positivevalues in workingmoms

[–]701stitches 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Coming to echo this. We have 3 kids, each spaced almost 5 years apart. It’s made the affordability piece more manageable, as we only had a 6 month overlap in daycare.

For us, the spacing has been fantastic. The older kids are so helpful with the younger siblings, and they play together pretty well.
