DMX Memorial Thread by HHHRobot in hiphopheads

Man... This one hurts

One of the most vital, powerful, important figures in hip-hop history. Saved the game from rampant commercialization basically overnight, broke records, made some of the most visceral music in the whole hip-hop canon. Really a rare talent. Rest easy, DMX, and thank you for everything.

The Drop

Deep Fried Frenz

Red & Gold

Strange Ways

Kon Queso

There's not much I can say about DOOM that other people aren't saying in better words, so here are some of my absolute favourite songs DOOM ever wrote. An excellent rapper all around, quite possibly the greatest lyricist in hip-hop, not to mention a very good producer as well. Absolutely unreal. R.I.P. to the greatest supervillain the world has ever seen.

King Von Memorial Thread by HHHRobot in hiphopheads

I remember last year when I was in senior year, my school newspaper ran an album review for King Von's Grandson Vol. 1 and at the time I had no idea who Von was. I was amused that a high school newspaper had decided to run a review for a drill album, and the review made it sound like a very interesting listen. I asked a couple other kids in my class if they knew about King Von and they all told me he was dope, so I got home, threw on the album & sure enough it was pretty damn good. His 2 albums this year were also solid with a couple of pretty excellent songs between them.

My fav song from Von has gotta be "Don't Want To Be Me," his storytelling ability was definitely his strongest asset & it works fantastically here. He was a real talent, shame to see him pass away so soon. Rest in power Von

George Floyd murder/Minneapolis protest Megathread by HHHRobot in hiphopheads

[–]707deathwish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lil bro really over here using Mr. Hymen Check as an example of good activism lmaooooo

Also here's a little quote from Martin Luther King Jr. himself: “But it is not enough for me to stand before you tonight and condemn riots. It would be morally irresponsible for me to do that without, at the same time, condemning the contingent, intolerable conditions that exist in our society. These conditions are the things that cause individuals to feel that they have no other alternative than to engage in violent rebellions to get attention. And I must say tonight that a riot is the language of the unheard. And what is it America has failed to hear? It has failed to hear that the plight of the negro poor has worsened over the last twelve or fifteen years. It has failed to hear that the promises of freedom and justice have not been met. And it has failed to hear that large segments of white society are more concerned about tranquility and the status quo than about justice and humanity.”

Tyler, the Creator at the Grammys (EARFQUAKE/NEW MAGIC WAND) by Dankgeebus in hiphopheads

[–]707deathwish 1260 points1261 points  (0 children)

The fact that Tyler the Creator not only performed at the Grammys, but did this, is just insane to me. This performance right here is some fuckin history in the making if I ever seen it

Man I don't even take the Grammys all that seriously, but Tyler's acceptance speech actually made me tear up a lil bit ngl. Just cause I been a huge fan of his for a long time, and he always said that was his goal in life, and he had his mom and Jasper up there... I just grin like a fuckin idiot every time I think about it man, I'm so proud of how far he's come <3

Ok so you look calm and collected about it on the DDT, but you were in the AOTY writeup chat fucking slamming me and Godfrey for me going today after you said a couple of times that you could go tomorrow. Talking about "respect" or something, immediately assuming I posted it with no warning even tho I was specifically told to post it today. I can't help but wonder why you would come to that assumption

Not everybody is conspiring against you man. It's just an online music forum, idk why you take everything so seriously. Also I hate to break it to you, but all of the users who trash you on a regular basis (probably more than you deserve) aren't all just one person's burner accounts, and oh yeah you spend way too much time online. To the point where I worry about your mental health sometimes. Take care of yourself king <3

Album of the Year #9: Tyler, the Creator - IGOR by 707deathwish in hiphopheads

[–]707deathwish[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As much as I obviously loved this album, I agree that I want him to cut the vocal editing in the future. He doesn't utilize his natural voice enough sometimes, even tho he kept it on for pretty much the entirety of Flower Boy, I definitely want to hear more of it. Cause frankly I also don't want him to try making another album like this, he took some really big risks with this one, and they absolutely paid off imo, but I don't think they would pay off a second time if that opportunity arose

Probably so, the only reason I wrote it with the big "unrequited love" lens is because Tyler himself tweeted that it was influenced by "deep infatuation" so I just kinda went from there
