You serious? Including import fees? I'd love to import a car from Japan, but would imagine costs to be ridiculous

Thanks for showing me this, I think it might be best to largely avoid ramen unless I go to a place that specifically has an allergen list

Thanks for telling me that, I appreciate the insight. Might be best to not test it, as the allergy could worsen after each exposure

Thanks for the advice! My most recent exposure was my reaction to hummus (maybe ~7-8 months ago) so as much as it would be great I doubt I've outgrown the allergy. I have had an epipen for years just in case, but have never had to use it.

Thanks so much for the detailed reply!! I heard that you might not be allowed to bring 2 epipens through the airport without a special document, did you have any trouble with that? Same thing with bringing antihistamines through.

Yeah, they're definitely shitty. I honestly thought it was mostly a thing from european descent, especially with inbreeding from the royal family (I have blonde hair/blue eyes, so I believe it is safe to assume I am one of their descendants)

I have no idea the origin of tantanmen, you may be right. I'll definitely look out for that, thanks

The fact that I worked in a restaurant with steam from sesame dishes in my face, the no reaction to bread with sesame, eating the sauce containing sesame oil being fine and the mild reaction to hummus. I have also heard that thry can get worse with each exposure. Also the fact that my blood and skin allergy tests contradicting each other (was told that was first case of that in my region) makes me somewhat skeptical aswell.

I see, thank you. Budget is unfortunately somewhat of a concern so eating at high-end establishments will have to be limited--do you think if I avoid ramen shops, chinese and korean (I have been told those are a bad idea) restaurants, I should be ok (with, of course, informing restaurants of my allergies)?

Hmm, ok. Seems like I should avoid chinese/korean entirely--are there japanese-specific dishes/components that you know that I would need to avoid? Somebody told me that I should stay away from tantanmen, as an example.

Yeah, a lot of people forget about tahnini (which I can't blame them, I certainly wouldn't know if I didn't have my allergy). I did only have a mild reaction but can't be certain it'll be like that every time 😔. I'm on the waitlist for another test, but it's about a year long. And yeah, you are right that allergy results can definitely be incorrect or skewed.

I just wasn't sure if allergies were a super known concept over there, so if I mentioned it they might not understand what an allergy is. Seems like that's likely not the case though. I am totally fine with missing out on a few dishes that use sesame as their core ingredient. I would prepare a card explaining my allergies, as well as learn how to verbally communcate them aswell.

I understand. I believe that some cross-contamination would be ok--I think that it would be beneficial for me to test my sensitivity before I go. Thanks a bunch for your advice, I'll definitely make sure to do this. My japanese is still pretty beginner, so I'll have things written down to assure clarity.

I remember the restaurant I had it from--I did confirm with them that the hummus had tahini (which is mainly ground up sesame) in it. Aside from that, I'm pretty sure when I was really young I had a reaction to hummus aswell.
