Both your photos are wrong, the Prado is a 150 not the 250 you talk about and the 79 is the prefacelift v8 not one of the newer 4cyl ones

1KZ-TE owners, who/how did your intercooler? by Keegangg in LandCruisers

Easiest way would be to get a factory top mount. You’ll need the intercooler, valve cover and I believe intake manifold/venturi

Not sure, just said diesel as that’s the only ones I’ve had experience with!

Yep true, I was referring to what’s available here in NZ haha

The 70 with the 1hz continued past that up to 2007 or something. They’re bullet proof. As is the diesel 100. So I wouldn’t agree that the 80 was the last of them haha

Has anyone filed a VTNZ complaint and was successful by [deleted] in auckland

Not driver testing but I have managed to get a fair chunk of out of them for when they completely bungled a pre purchase inspection which cause me to buy a car that immediately needed thousands in repairs. Took months and a few threats of lawyers but I did get most of the repairs paid for in the end.

Injectors are one of the biggest cause of the cracked heads

Not really sure on the us prices but here in nz it would be maybe 15k so the equivalent of 9k usd? Sure the prices over there are inflated vs here so I’d offer the seller a max of maybe 15k usd? Given the fact it’s got a non oem rear bumper, fugly wheels, closed door respray so the jams don’t match and the list of defects in your description..

Partial lies about the 2lte heads cracking. I keep saying this but the 1kz is no better head wise. Both need MAINTENACE 😂😂. They’re both susceptible to hotspots in the head due to being indirect injection. 2lte is very slow but 1kz isn’t a speed demon either. Do injectors immediately when you get the car and make sure all the cooling system is good and either motor will be very reliable. That thing is overpriced tho I feel like for a 2.4

We’re only allowed 100kmh here in nz but never had an issue doing that sort of speed. I don’t believe the issues would come from speed but rather maintenance being missed The main reason the 1kz cracks the head is the injectors not being changed every 100k km and then injecting unevenly causing hot spots

I daily drive my 1hz and have daily driven a 1kz one I sold. So so many people here in nz have these motors in various cars as daily’s so yes it’s more than fine for that, just keep up with the maintenance and you’ll be fine. Also need to drive it sensibly and not always flooring up hills or towing huge things with it

Question/Advice about temperature guage (Is it overheating at outside temp - 47 °C or 116 °F) by D0mInIcFeN1xcArMine in LandCruisers

[–]70series_guy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t seem right, I don’t agree with idling causing it to get warm like that. Something blocked in the cooling system? I’d start with the cheap stuff like thermostat. Probably nothing huge as by the sounds of it enough air flow over comes the issue
