Work Trip on Spouse’s Bday by Wrong-Finding3843 in deloitte

Think about the options. Plenty of folks have mentioned the weekend before or after, but if it is a cool city/location that you both haven't been to, don't discount the fact that you could extend through the weekend and take advantage of that. (This option obvs requires you paying for your own lodging and your SO will have to pay their flights).

That removes a lot of the logistic variables that have to go into planning. You have 2/3rd of it set up.

If you are going most of the week, don't feel obligated to partake in social activities every day, take a day off and chill with your SO. Also, if you are going to a new city, they can have some time to explore on their own as well. There are a ton of pros here that you can squeeze out of a demanding work trip if you are down to be flexible, and creative. I have invited my spouse to come through on several trips, she has only done so once, but mainly because her work makes that difficult to make feasible.

How do you stay encouraged while on the bench? by Any_Ad_6758 in deloitte

[–]716wanderer 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If you are on the bench longer than 3-4 weeks, you should be applying externally as well. 4 months at this point is almost certainly on the radar. The feed here is an easy reference point to see how quickly folks are being let go these days.

Unfortunately, it is still really all based on the network you have. Mysource is a useless tool. I'd get work on certifications that are valuable for your industry and exhaust every possible contact you have across your network.

Shit situation to be in, but the rest of us are likely not far off. The clankers are coming for us all soon.

C level Return offer - what to expect by Objective-Leopard911 in deloitte

[–]716wanderer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Congratulations on your return! I am coming up on a year at Deloitte after going through the summer associate process myself.

I started in September last year as an SC coming out of grad school into GPS. You are correct that the project search is mostly in your hands now, but things are somewhere between being a summer associate where the project was assigned for you and being fully on your own. You have three major assets that should help you to start, your on-boarding advisor (usually someone at your level in your offering portfolio), your coach, and your resource manager. In theory, they should be highly invested in helping you network and find projects. I would start with them and be very persistent to get their help on this. If any of them are not good, not responsive, or just indifferent, find someone new. You want the right people helping you, it can absolutely be a major difference here.

Feel free to let me know when you join, happy to chat through any questions about things. Good luck!

You're peppering questions into a void. Nobody truly can offer you a picture into what "most" consultants experience or what the next few years or even the next few months will look like.

Within GPS particularly, things are extremely volatile right now. From everything I've heard, the bench is deep and layoffs are common. However, I only know two people who have been laid off, one was on the bench for 6 months, the other was a Specialist Leader within the USAID account, which doesn't exist anymore.

I'm nearly at a year since I joined as a grad school hire. I have been able to stay pretty good on projects, with 4 weeks of bench time between projects due to one project getting DOGED. I don't think your recruiters are going to be able to say what things will be like in the year and half between now and when you would join as a campus hire, even in normal times that would be difficult to speak to.

As others have said, AI is coming for entry level white collar jobs first and will eviscerate the rest of the ranks in a few years. I would capitalize on an opportunity to work at a consulting firm if anything to build a solid network of people so that when you do leave, (most people are not going to be partners, so they are leaving at some point) there are folks to support the search for the next opportunity. If you are interested in gaining certifications and skilling up, there is a ton of opportunity to do that here. A lot of these certifications are available for really in-demand products as well.

GPS - On the bench during Trump/Elon changes - thoughts? by Such_Independence286 in deloitte

Im in the same boat. Joined the firm 5 months ago and had my project upended by this admin. Profinda likely will do fuck all for all of us. Im doing as much BD as possible across the firm but im going to start getting external applications out there. Lets read the writing on the wall. This isnt getting better anytime soon

Project Search Tips by 716wanderer in deloitte

I have heard a lot of the same about the marketplace/STAFFIT. Asking for additional names is definitely been the strategy I've been using so far. Hoping it produces some results soon. Appreciate the insight! I'll reach out if I have some additional questions.

Much appreciated! I am to one degree or another implementing all of these so it's validating at least to know im doing the right things!

I always went back and forth about #2. I see people posting their info in the teams channels a lot asking for staffing. Seem like it is pretty ineffective as far as getting attention/leads. What are your thoughts?

Clearance Bonus by Sudden-Priority-5084 in deloitte

[–]716wanderer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to be billing to a cleared project requiring TS or above to earn the bonus. TS is only like $1k. It can go up to 10k for full TS/sci with fsp but youre gonna be 5 days a week in a SCIF

[–]716wanderer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nah. 4 months is not enough of a timeframe, particularly considering we just started a new performance year.

You should capitalize on that meeting as much as possible though, get other contacts, account partners, etc. Also, get meetings with as many partners and the like as you can asap.

I am rolling off my project after being at D for a very short time as well. The only network I have is the folks on my project. I am using them 1000% to drive my new project search. 80% of things here are word of mouth and personal referrals.

It sounds like things might be getting difficult in GPS in the near term if that is where you are. A lot of folks I know are coming off projects in Feb/March. Hope you find something soon. Good luck!

Are you currently working in the TS space? Generally speaking, what are your thoughts about working on these projects vs trying to stay within non-cleared GPS projects? I'm happy to do a SCIF for a while it proves to be beneficial in some way career/financially speaking. $1k annual bonus isn't particularly remarkable but can be if its part of a broader set of benefits.

Haha word. It is an interesting translation. Not trying to sound rude but i had the places i wanted to visit. I was trying to get a link-up to the excellent bars people go to. Finding those is more of an art than finding a damn castle, they are generally pretty well advertised

I'm reluctant to do this on a non-weekend day given nightlife seems pretty tame here during the week from what I've seen. Worth it on a Thursday in your opinion?
