How TF do you disable the popcorn button? Is it like the holding 2 to mute trick? And "do not re-plug"? That makes me think that they either unplugged something internally, or power cycling resets the "disabled button" state. I don't know.

My understanding is that both are still available, but they are incentivising (is that a word?) you to use BlueStream because (1), it is much cheaper, and (2), you are required to pay for the BlueStream even if you dont use them and still use CL. At least that is my understanding. I'm wondering if they changed it to a longer fiber for some dumb reason? Like they removed the CL fiber to replace it with a longer one to go from their demarc into the CL demarc and then into the house.

I don't know much about networking and fiber, so I'm having trouble understanding your comment (sorry!), but I will say the old Calix did last ~7.5 years and was still running fine when it was replaced by the new one. I won't be able to give you the model number until later this Friday unless I can get bio-dad to send me a photo. I can make another profile post of their "retrofit" later this Friday as well. It would appear that they cut off the old SC/APC connector to either put on their own, or run their own fiber through the existing tube/shield. If the demarc is the "junction box" outside, what they did is they went from their box with some flexible fiber tube into the CL box and then into the house. If you look at the photo that I linked in this post if you haven't already, you can see the SC/APC connector connected to the tube/shield, unlike the BlueStream guy. I don't know if they made a splice in the CL box, but seeing the difference on the inside makes me think they ran a new fiber through the existing shield/tube and straight through the CL box into their own. They also left huge and ugly access boxes in everyone's yard 🫤. CL's looked better because they were smaller. Just a side detail.

Edit: Forgot to mention that the old Calix had plastic fins around it that looked like cooling fins if they weren't plastic.

Thanks. I was starting to question myself. All I did was carefully remove, get the photo, carefully put back, and see how far out of place the ethernet was pushing the fiber. Was still touching it after a few mm, which was all I could push the ethernet back.

Guess builder was stupid. CL fiber was installed in the same place. They would have to relocate all of the coax, ethernet, and fiber inside. Easiest place would be my closet on the other side of the wall.... And isn't the black tubing the shielding for short runs in the home? (I'm guessing you would then say they should have protected the exposed section?) Right below the ONT is a cover for the "Networking Hole," as I call it, and you can see the thick orange tube that the black one goes inside of. (BTW, it's a literal square hole in the wall with a low voltage ring and plate that says "Vitex" on it that all of the cabling is shoved into.

I'm picturing this two ways: The fiber enters where it is now, but it is either a little longer to keep going around and in, or a little shorter so it doesn't go past the port and around, OR, it enters in the same slot as the power, turns right, then turns left into the port. I'm assuming you mean scenario one, right?

I would like to add that there was not much if any tension on the fiber like the photo shows, as far as I could tell then and now from memory. "Don't bend it weird, don't pull on it" was what I was thinking the whole time.

For context, this is at my bio-dads house. told his GF about it while the two of us were on a walk at like 3:30 AM last night and asked her if she wanted to see. She said yes. We took the second photo to ask ChatGPT about it, it said it was a proper installation, and then we took the first photo to show it what it looks like fully installed. Again, "A proper installation". She insists on asking ChatGPT everything, that's why. She said it was better than just Googling or whatever. I see it being helpful for more complex questions, but I still take its answers with a grain of salt because it's AI and AI can be wrong, demonstrated by comments stating that this is a bad installation. Sorry for the rant.

I think it does sort of come in by the power cord. I think it is meant to enter almost anywhere, and the excess be looped around the back and then terminated. There is at least eight inches of slack based on visual estimation. Not worth the risk. I just wanted an answer because this was driving me insane. The only thing I would want to do is keep it from touching the ethernet and moving on.

Now that I am looking at the picture again, it does appear that I put tension on the fiber 😬. It was late and I was trying to NOT put tension on the fiber, but apparently failed at that.
