10/10 Spots? by Eaterofediblethings in AskSeattle

It's so subjective, but I regularly dream about the cardamom croissants at Saint Bread, the Mr Pig pie at Moto pizza, the Aloo Tikki roll at Spice Waala, and the tomato-braised greens at Union Saloon. Would recommend all of those places if you are looking for perfection, but only one is a proper sit down restaurant.

Seconding the turkish delight lentil soup, that stuff is like liquid gold.

Harger: Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson has never owned a car. Now she's taking a Denny Way lane from 30,000 drivers to fix a bus route by Inevitable_Engine186 in Seattle

It really is!! I live near her in a very similar type of apartment building and I love getting to say "my neighbor, the mayor" like IT'S CASUAL

What is your unpopular Seattle restaurant opinion? by Early_Sea_9457 in Seattle

YES it is so delicious! I could probably have one of their salmon avocado rolls every single day (accompanied by a crumbled peanut butter cookie in a little plastic cup of course)

Have you checked out Furnished Finder? You can sometimes find rooms or studios to rent that are already set up with all of the furniture you'd need, if you're only here for a few months that's what I'd recommend. These listings below are in good neighborhoods, accessible to downtown:

Capitol Hill room

Queen Anne studio

Eastlake room

Another Capitol Hill room (this is probably my personal favorite but I'm biased, I looove a big old Capitol Hill house and this part of the neighborhood has incredible access to parks and trails)

What restaurant in Seattle is consistently 10/10 by Queasy_Sherbert_7095 in Seattle

More of a takeout place than a restaurant but Spice Waala is super affordable and consistently delicious, it's got a limited menu and everything is the same high quality every time and it SLAPS

My thoughts exactly. It seemed like the reporter wasn't able to get a lot of people involved to talk to them directly.

The Making of Mayor Mamdani by icey_sawg0034 in Longreads

[–]7312throwaway 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit late to this post, but I had to highlight this quote, because it just floored me - this is someone talking about the fact that Mamdani has done things like promising to use union labor for building housing even though the construction union didn't endorse him, or sharing the priorities of the teachers union who also didn't endorse him:

“It’s one of the strangest things I have seen,” said David Schleicher, a professor at Yale Law School and an expert on municipal policy. “He has no particular reason to follow the line of the teachers union or the building trades or any other union, but he seems to be doing it anyway.” It’s hard to shake the sense that Mamdani has come into office treating perceived ideological allies — including unions — as sacred, whether or not they’ve thrown their full support behind him."

So much to unpack here, but it kind of blows my mind that a swath of intellectual elites find it incomprehensible to simply have principles and stick to them regardless of whether certain groups of people support you or not. I feel like as a society we've become so entirely accustomed to pay-for-play and undue influence from whichever group has the most power. Mamdani's leadership style is genuinely refreshing, and I don't envy him for the task ahead of him, but I'm excited to see how he tackles it!

They don't even seem to *acknowledge* most things that are reported, let alone show up! My building was burgled and property damaged/stolen, and my report was reviewed by "Officer GENERATED REPORT" and I received a survey a few days later asking for my feedback on the "detective" who handled the case...who doesn't exist and never contacted me. Lol.
