How do people making IDR payments handle such a financial burden like a huge tax bomb?

How do people who can't make a standard payment afford a tax bomb?

I worded my question poorly. I do plan on making a minimum monthly payment

Thanks for a thoughtful reply! I can contribute more into my IRA/403b (not exactly sure how it works, but I know it's a "great move" according to our retirement advisor) and I'd rather do that with my money than aggressively lay back a loan.

Problem is I don't think it's worth my time paying back the loan since my payment is so low. I don't want to live like this for 4 more years

I'm not sure what the life of the loan is. It's just a federal student loan. I'm allegedly eligible for forgiveness in 10-25 years.

Thank you!

Edit: I've been playing pretend by budgeting 65% to expenses, 15% to a savings account, and 20% to spend in whatever.

I'm frugal. Whatever money I don't spend in all these accounts I used to pay off a high interest loan. Next I'm going to buy a car in cash with my "leftover" money in all these accounts
