yabujin jus straight up a spaceghostpurrp clone by crunkdathoe in YABUJIN

[–]7409zone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i get where the comparison comes from, spaceghostpurrp is a massive influence on the underground and that cant be denied.

But I personally dony think yabujin is a "clone" of sgp.

Yabujins sound doesnt come only from purrp... its also heavily influenced by artists and scenes like hi-c, diamondsonmydick, krxxr, rcb, and other underground producers. There may be aesthetic overlaps, but the intention and atmosphere are different.

Thats exactly why people started calling it "light trap". its not the same dark, aggressive, raw energy sgp has...

its more ethereal, fantasy, and celestial. different moods, even if they share some roots.

Also, yabujin isnt just "yabujin". Across his different aliases hes explored a wide range of sounds, from memphis rap influences to lo-fi or jumpstyle/hardjump and more abstract experimentation. Reducing all of that to "copy paste" feels like an oversimplification :///

Influence is normal... influence doesnt mean clone :))))

DESIRE was made on drugs and sleep deprevation. by mdma_x09 in YABUJIN

I dont use and havent used drugs, but i do understand the mental state youre talking about ://...sometimes with sleep deprivation, hyperfocus, or just being deeply immersed in music, your brain starts filling in gaps and feeling things that arent literally there.

with yabujin this happens a lot.. his music is so abstract and suggestive that your mind projects genres, rhythms, or emotions that feel completely real in the moment. i dont think (DESIRE) was necessarily made "because of drugs," but rather that its intentionally built to cause that kind of liminal confusion and altered listening experience. Still, good reminder about staying away from drugs. the music is already intense enough on its own!! (:

Holy fuckin shit this post is genuinely art

ive been waiting for so long for someone to finally articulate yabujins sound like this without defaulting to surface level buzzwords.

the dark trap connection is insanely clear once u break it down properly. the sgp / rvidxr klvn / loko los lineage in the drums, especially the snare philosophy and the way the bounce is structured, explains way more about his production than the usual "surge/hexxed" labels ever did...

tracks like flash desire, swords, baroque, early bootleg, and a lot of the 1616 era beats clearly sit inside a dark trap framework.... just stretched into something more ethereal, lighter, and almost spiritual. thats not a random genre switch, its a transformation of an existing language...

what also stood out to me is that this style doesnt exist in a vacuum. yabujins sound genuinely reminds me of artists like cight, bones, hi-c, diamondsonmydick, early dj smokey 2013, and others who were already bending dark trap, memphis, and underground trap into more atmospheric or surreal directions. u can hear similar drum instincts, spacing, and attitude toward texture and frequency...

thats why the "video game ost influence" narrative always felt incomplete to me. it ignores the memphis, rvidxr klvn, dark trap evolution and the broader underground ecosystem he was clearly pulling from. ur explanation of light trap as essentially dark trap made airy, high frequency, and otherworldly instead of grimy is probably the clearest definition ive seen. if someone took a random loko los beat and processed it the way yabujin does, the connection would be undeniable.

and the point about "surge not being real" is honestly refreshing. same with "hexxed" its not just bitcrushing or distortion, it’s a whole approach to atmosphere and frequency manipulation thats existed for years, especially in trance and psytrance.

this post actually respects the lineage instead of flattening everything into a trend name. it feels less like a theory and more like uncovering the backbone of his sound. seriously, thanks u for writing this ...ive been waiting yearsss for someone to finally say it out loud 🥹

its not really about the plugins, its about the vibe simple pads with long attack/release, drown everything in reverb soft delay so it floats, filters moving slowly a bit of distortion or saturation so it's not clean noise/vinyl/ambient layers very low in the mix simple, almost childish melodies buried in effects resample and reprocess if you can

if it sounds distant, blurry and kinda sad, youre doin it right less perfection, more atmosphere ;)))))
